Job Overview:
  • The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) Office of Informatics and Analytics (OIA), Core Informatics unit is currently recruiting a FHIR Interoperability Specialist to coordinate and support public health FHIR interoperability activities and related projects.
  • The person in this position will work closely with other members and interoperability subject matter experts in OIA, various TDH divisions and program areas, and the state IT division, Strategic Technology Solutions (STS) to support HL7 FHIR interoperability projects.
  • The FHIR Interoperability Specialist plays a vital role in promoting and advancing FHIR to improve interface interoperability across TDH.
  • Key activities for this position will include contributing significantly to strategic FHIR specific projects, building agency-level readiness and capacity to adopt public health FHIR solutions, development of a TDH FHIR roadmap, supporting HL7 FHIR interoperability projects such as HL7 Helios FHIR Accelerator focus areas (i.e., implementation support of  query and response or aggregate data priority areas), and supporting TDH electronic data interchange (EDI) Interoperability Infrastructure & Architecture  enhancement activities in alignment with TDH data modernization efforts.
  • As a member of the Office of Informatics and Analytics, this individual will get exposure and experience in the use and development of interoperability standards, like HL7, and will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of informatics projects including system integration, system interoperability, electronic health record implementation, and specific public health reporting projects.
  • This position may require some in-state and possible out-of-state travel.
  • There is also the potential for presentation and public speaking opportunities.
  • Core Informatics staff will assist with emergency response situations when necessary.
