Job description

NVR, Inc. is seeking an on-site Tax Manager in Reston, VA.
Our Tax team plays a key role in maintaining compliance and supporting critical financial initiatives. At NVR, you will join a collaborative, detail-driven group that values accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Summary:
The Tax Manager is responsible for income tax provision and accounting, as well as compliance and reporting for both income and non-income taxes, including Sales & Use tax, Personal Property tax, Business Licenses, Annual Reports, and Federal and State income tax filings. The role also supports audits, tax planning, and process improvement efforts aimed at reducing risk and cost.
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage domestic income, franchise, and gross receipts tax compliance, including federal, state, and local returns; quarterly estimated payments; annual extension payments; and monthly account reconciliations.
  • Calculate and review book-to-tax adjustments, state apportionment calculations, and state modifications.
  • Prepare and/or review income tax calculations, income tax payments, and income tax returns.
  • Prepare and/or review the year-end tax provision packet, including the Effective Tax Rate, exposure analysis, Uncertain Tax Positions (UTP), and supporting documentation.
  • Understand facts with minimal guidance and recognize issues and opportunities.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of tax law and compliance software.
  • Develop and train staff.
  • Stay abreast of current tax law changes and increase tax knowledge through continuing education and training.

Job Qualifications:
  • B.A. or B.S. degree required.
  • 5-7 years of income tax experience or equivalent public accounting experience.
  • Experience preparing federal and state corporate tax returns.
  • Experience with multi-state taxation.
  • Strong accounting and tax provision skills.
  • Ability to work on-site at our Reston, VA corporate office.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPA candidate desired.
  • Experience with tax compliance software desired (CorpTax a plus).
  • Strong PC skills, including MS Office.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) to clearly answer questions from auditors, tax department members, and other company personnel.
  • Critical thinking and strong analytical skills.
