Position Description
Job Summary:
The Tax Specialist (Jurisdiction Coordinator) position plays a critical role in coordinating with taxing entities, ensuring compliance with tax laws, and facilitating clear communication between the Tax Office and external agencies. This is a full-time, in-office position. Remote work is not available unless specifically authorized based on operational needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for completing taxing entity requests, providing accurate and timely responses.
• Manages Truth-In-Taxation calculations in setting taxing entity tax rates.
• Compiles and maintain taxing entities' resolutions/ordinances for exemptions and attorney fees.
• Conducting Texas Comptroller's Property Value Studies including audits.
• Consults with taxing entities to ensure a thorough understanding of collection and appraisal reports, as well as Tax Office services.
• Establish and maintain strong working relationships between the Tax Office and taxing entities.
• Assists with taxing entity audits and facilitate bank changes as necessary.
• Assists in processing and researching property tax payments during peak tax season.
• Processes payments in the form of cash, check, credit, or other forms of monetary value, ensuring every action is recorded and the cash drawer and non-cash transactions are balanced to the exact dollar amount.

About the Tax Assessor-Collector
The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector's Office is essential for ensuring the proper administration of tax laws and providing vital services to the community. The office plays a key role in local government, handling various financial and administrative tasks including:

Property Tax Collection: Assess and collect property taxes for all eligible commercial and residential property owners and entities. Calculate property taxes based on appraised values and ensure collection and distribution to the appropriate entities.

Motor Vehicle Services: Manage commercial and residential vehicle registration, issue license plates, and handle vehicle title transfers, including the collection of associated fees.
•
Voter Registration: Oversee voter registration within the county, issue voter registration certificates, and maintain an accurate voter registration roll.
•
Additional Revenue Collection: Collecting certain fees, fines, and revenues related to permits or state mandates, depending on the county's needs.

Requirements
Education:
• Associate's degree in Business Administration or a related field.
Experience:
• Minimum of five (5) years of professional business office experience in taxation, finance, governmental administration, or a related field.
• Experience working with Truth-In-Taxation laws, property taxation, or tax collection processes is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of local government operations and financial reporting is a plus.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, public-facing, and stressful environment.

General Information
Work Environment:
• Work is performed primarily in an office setting subject to frequent interruptions with extensive work at a computer workstation and site visits to various Tax Offices, Harris County and community facilities, both outdoors and indoors.
• Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours and occasional overnight travel to conferences and training sessions required.
Physical Demands:
• This role is a standard office role that requires remaining stationary for long periods of time. At times, boxes or equipment must be transported weighing up to 30 lbs.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.Due to a high volume of applications positions may close prior to the advertised closing date or at the discretion of the Hiring Department.
