Job description

If you're hoping for a staunch, stuffy, big city CPA experience, we'd be all wrong for you. Unify doesn't look like the conventional CPA firm. Stands to reason that our Sr Tax Accountant wouldn't look, sound, or even be named like the conventional accountant at a CPA firm. And if you just survived tax season running on caffeine and 70-hour weeks and you're already dreading next year, keep reading.

At Unify, our Sr Tax Associates are called Accounting Managers. And for good reason. That is what happens when a firm built around strategic advice replaces the seasonal compliance grind with a subscription model that works year-round.

Our Accounting Managers averaged under 46 hours a week through April 15.
That is not a typo.

The Accounting manager runs a section of 40 to 50 clients like they own it. Because in the ways that matter, they do. We trust our people completely, offer excellent perks and benefits. Weekly massages help too.

Our clients feel that same confidence in us that we do in our people. That is not a coincidence.

If you are selected as one of our Accounting managers, you will:
  • Hire, train, supervise and monitor the production of the Staff Accountants in their section
  • Answer all technical processing / accounting questions of Staff Accountants
  • Review monthly financial statements produced by Staff Accountants
  • Attend and administer Initial Strategy Sessions on new clients, and then set up and process new clients until passing accounts to Staff Accountants
  • Build and maintain strategic business partner relationships with clients
  • Monitor profitability for clients based on time and transactions and discuss fee adjustments when necessary
  • Conduct annual tax planning, prepare tax returns, review final returns, answer tax-related questions and respond to taxing authorities.

We are looking for an Accounting Aficionado who:

  • Has at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and at least five years experience in Public Accounting (excluding experience in audit, government or the private sector)
  • Is either a CPA or EA, or willing and eligible to become one
  • Is a servant leader, able to mentor and inspire others
  • Loves building relationships and communicating with clients, treating them as the most important thing in our business
  • Is the kind of team player who is enjoyable, humble, confident, and accountable; who shows up, finds solutions, and looks for opportunities to grow and improve
  • Will hold our culture well.

This will not be the right opportunity for those who:

  • Lack at least five years experience in a CPA firm focused on tax (as opposed to audit, private accounting, or government)
  • Lack the competence and confidence needed to walk in humility and therefore feel the need to trumpet their success or seek excessive validation
  • Exhibit victim behavior, speaking as if they have no voice, or complaining as if they can’t affect outcomes.
  • Are not early adapters with emerging technologies like AI, valuing the increased productivity and efficiency they bring
  • Aren’t interested in being part of a firm that expects to triple its revenue in the next 10 years

Expected annualized salary for this position is $90,000 - $125,000

We expect to consider candidates for this position through the end of May.
