ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: Tribal Police
SUPERVISOR: Police Sergeant
FLSA: Non-exempt
SALARY: $19.50 - DOE
ALL FULL TIME POSITIONS: In addition to your pay, your salary also includes Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance. The Biweekly deduction from employee paycheck is $40.00 for Employee Only, $95.00 Employee plus Children, $120.00 Employee plus Spouse, and $140.00 Employee plus family.
JOB SUMMARY:
Patrol and protect Tribal Grounds
RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:
• Patrol as assigned to prevent crime or disturbance on Tribal Grounds
• Investigate or assist in investigations of crimes and criminal activity committed within Tribal jurisdiction
• Any other duties as assigned by the Police Chief
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform other duties and projects as required by management
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION:
• Must be CLEET Certified
• Knowledge of the law for the protection of all individuals, including search and seizure, rights to an attorney and proper method of questioning suspects
• Knowledge of the criminal law (Federal, state and local) and of the laws, rules precedents, and relationships affecting jurisdiction in criminal cases in Indian Country
• Basic skills to independently conduct complete investigations and prepare conclusive reports on ordinary simple criminal cases
• Ability to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant information and evidence
• Skill in the use of firearms used on duty and other offensive and defensive weapons used on duty including but not limited to impact weapons, chemical agents, and electronic control weapons
• Ability to analyze, evaluate and organize information for the preparation of clear concise reports
• Ability to deal effectively with others under stress
• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of investigations
• Skill in conducting interviews and interrogations
• Ability to testify in court
• Skill in recognizing, collecting and preserving physical evidence
• Six months course work above High School level in law enforcement or related field; or six months experience in law enforcement; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical ability to defend oneself and associates from possible assault and must be able to subdue suspects where necessary. Must have the stamina necessary for long hours. Must be capable of traversing difficult terrain in adverse weather and must be physically capable of performing police duties in emergencies.
