Position Summary
This is a full-time position with all costs covered by Upward Bound (UB), a federally funded TRIO Program. The CACC Upward Bound Program serves eligible, low-income, first-generation college students in the Talladega ,Coosa, and Shelby County areas. The Upward Bound Academic Coordinator provides direct services to program participants and operational support to the Upward Bound Program. Tasks include managing program records, conducting academic and career assessments, providing academic advising, assisting with college tours ,admissions ,scholarship search, and FAFSA completion. The UB Academic Coordinator is also responsible for maintaining the website and social media accounts. The UB program works to generate the skills and motivation necessary to persist in completing high school as well as continuing toward completion of a college degree or certification.
This is a temporary, grant-funded, and probationary position. Continued employment is dependent on continued funding.
This position will be based on the Childersburg campus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Adhere to the policies, rules and standards of Central Alabama Community College, the Alabama Community College System, accrediting agencies, and federal regulatory bodies.
- Ensure compliance with Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Assist Director in the implementation of activities and services for TRIO.
- Submit requested reports, data, and documentation in a timely manner.
- Recruit/assist with interviewing eligible program participants and parents.
- Supervise Upward Bound Program participants; to include overnight travel.
- Represent the UB program and communicate effectively with target school personnel including guidance counselors and principals
- Assist with the distribution of TRIO information to ensure program success.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding UB program services, educational advancement, financial aid, and career advisement.
- Represent the UB program at community events; maintain a positive attitude.
- Assist with documentation of eligibility, academic need, services, activities, attendance, satisfactory progress, and test data as required by grant objectives.
- Maintain an efficient filing system to include paper and electronic for all data, records, required documentation, and correspondence.
- Create flyers and manage social media sites and group messaging platforms for Upward Bound.
- Visit target high schools monthly and target feeder schools annually.
- Assist with college admissions requirements, financial aid applications and scholarships search.
- Facilitate FAFSA workshops for parents/guardians and program participants.
- Evaluate transcripts and provide academic advising for program participants.
- Develop and maintain an academic performance plan for students; ensuring they meet the requirements of the grant.
- Assist with data entry and maintaining data in the TRIO database(BLUMEN).
- Travel with program participants during the academic and summer components.
- Attend TRIO- related professional development opportunities/events.
- Serve on college committees and attend meetings as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned as related to the position.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or related field is required. Master's degree is preferred.
- Three (3) years of experience providing academic advisement/counselingrequired.
- Two (2) years of experience working with low-income, first-generation students who have an academic need or similar experience in other program(s)required.
- Effective oral and written skills are required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
- Ability to problem-solve, prioritize, communicate ,and engage in teamwork isrequired.
- Ability to develop, review and edit professional documents (data management )is required.
- Ability to work non-traditional work hours is required
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
- Willingness and resources necessary to travel within the service area is required.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
