Job description

Recreation Specialist

Location: Danvers and Salem MA / Community Based Sites

Schedule: Based on program needs. This role requires Friday and Saturday availability and at least one weekday (preferably more).

Fridays: 5:00–8:00 PM

Saturdays: 10:00 AM–2:00 PM

Weekday shifts may include:

• Monday after 4:00 PM

• Tuesday after 4:00 PM

• Wednesday daytime

Target Pay: $22.00

Job Summary:

Northeast Arc’s Recreation program offers individuals the opportunity to participate in active and healthy recreation as well as leisure activities for enjoyment, relaxation, development, and personal growth. We offer yoga, boxing, fitness classes, bowling leagues, dances, social events, art workshops, community outings, adventures and more.

In collaboration with the Recreation Manager, Director and the Recreation Specialist staff, the Recreation Specialist implements and manages community-based programs and events offered through the Northeast Arc Recreation Department.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage community-based programs and events in collaboration with the Senior Manager of Recreation and Outreach, Lead Recreation Specialist, Director, and Recreation Specialist staff
  • Ability to schedule, organize and lead community recreation programs
  • Support individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities in participating fully in recreational activities
  • Prepare and maintain detailed program records and reports
  • Maintain a safe program environment in accordance with Northeast Arc policies and Universal Precautions
  • Work weekends and other non-traditional schedules as required by program needs
  • Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment where differences are celebrated and every participant feels a sense of belonging

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or college courses preferred
  • Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or physical disabilities or autism and or prior experience working with teens/youth. Prior experience in the field of Recreation and Leisure is preferred.
  • Must be willing to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Compassionate about recreation and creative programming.
  • Solid communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Problem-solving skills and able to work independently under minimal supervision. Desire to work with diverse population of individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities.
  • Ability to follow Universal Precautions
  • Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Must be able to be mobile and active. Must be able to work on your feet for 30 min or more.
  • First Aid, CPR, Safety Care (willingness to become certified)
  • Must successfully complete and pass all required background checks as a condition of employment
