Position Summary
The Band Director at Wichita Christian School is responsible for leading and developing the school's instrumental music program in a Christ-centered environment. This position provides musical instruction, spiritual mentorship, and performance opportunities that support academic excellence, student growth, and worship through the arts. The Band Director prepares students for performances, concerts, and TAPPS competitions, while fostering discipline, teamwork, and a love for music that honors God.
Key Responsibilities
  • Reports to Campus Principal
  • Plan and deliver high-quality instrumental music instruction appropriate to student skill levels
  • Direct band rehearsals, sectionals, performances, concerts, and school events
  • Prepare students for and actively participate in TAPPS competitions and events in compliance with all TAPPS rules and expectations
  • Select appropriate music that supports both musical growth and the mission of Wichita Christian School
  • Integrate biblical principles, prayer, and Christian character development into instruction and leadership
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback to support musical and personal growth
  • Maintain classroom discipline, rehearsal structure, and instrument care standards
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, performance schedules, and expectations
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to support school-wide goals and events
  • Support spiritual life of the school through participation in chapel services, events, and community activities

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field preferred
  • Texas teaching certification or eligibility preferred
  • Experience directing school band programs and ensembles
  • Willingness to participate in TAPPS competitions
