Job description

Job Description
The Pharmacy Tech role performs a variety of technical, clerical, dispensing, inventory, preparation, and delivery tasks to support the Department of Pharmacy in the provision of pharmacy services with an emphasis on accuracy and patient safety.
The Pharmacy Tech plays a crucial role in patient-centered care by assisting pharmacists with medication dispensing by ensuring accuracy when packaging, dispensing, and transporting medications which are crucial steps to ensure patient safety.
Schedule: Per diem
Day shifts include 7-3, 8-4, 9-5, evening shift is 3-11pm, overnight shift is 11pm-7am
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Works under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and all medication related activities must be checked and approved by a pharmacist.
2. Demonstrates flexibility in working rotating day, evening and overnight shifts as well as holidays and weekends as assigned. .
3. Manages Pyxis inventory by performing accurate drug selection, refilling, loading, stock rotation and expiration date entry of medications in the Pyxis machines.
4. Ensures appropriate and secure handling and management of controlled substances from receipt to delivery per established department policies/procedures and government regulations.
5. Ensures removal of expired/damaged products from pyxis machines, medication rooms and pharmacy inventory in a timely fashion
6. Assists pharmacists in providing timely pharmacy services including but not limited to drug delivery, resolution of Pyxis and Talyst problems, urgent patient care needs, and routine patient specific unit dose medication selection.
7. Prepares and fills all medication requests, floor stock requests, emergency code trays, EMS needs and various medication kits.
8. Performs controlled substance inventory, reviews controlled drug utilization reports and other various requirements per departmental policies.
9. Maintains refrigerator, freezer and room temperature logs per departmental and regulatory requirements.
10. Performs billing/charging duties as required.
11. Performs medication room and pharmacy inventory inspections monthly according to department policies/procedures.
12. Receives, inventories, and puts away the wholesaler medication order with accuracy and in compliance with USP<800> Hazardous Drugs, 340B regulations and Verify on Receipt software.
13. Understands the importance of bar code and NDC accuracy for inventory when scanning medications, packaging medications into unit of use containers, and maintaining accurate documentation.
14. Manages, operates, triages, and performs preventative maintenance on pharmacy equipment safely and correctly.
15. Completes continuous training and education, department specific competencies, regulatory compliance where applicable and organizational requirements as assigned.
16. Complies with departmental organizational policies and procedures and external agency requirements.
17. Performs purchasing duties in compliance with 340B and Drug Supply Chain Security Act requirements and exercises fiscal responsibility.
18. Triages medication needs and requests via the electronic health record (epic).
19. Prepares extemporaneous non-sterile preparations according to USP795 regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
1.High school graduate or equivalent required.
2.Active pharmacy technician state registration (CT license) required.
3.National pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) required. Preferred upon hire but will allow up to six (6) months from date of hire to obtain for continued employment.
