Job description

HR Advisor / HR Business PartnerCasual | 10-20 hours/week | Remote-first | CanadaWe're looking for an experienced HR Advisor / HR Business Partner to join A&A in a casual, flexible capacity. Internally, this role is an Intermediate HR Consultant - the dedicated HR partner for several small and mid-sized organizations that either don't have HR or need extra support.A few things upfrontThis is truly a 10-20 hours/week role. Some weeks will be busier, some quieter, but it is not a disguised full-time job. It's ideal for someone who wants meaningful HR work without committing to a traditional 40-hour schedule.People who tend to thrive in this structure include those who: Already work part-time and want additional hours Run their own consulting practice Want more flexibility for family or personal commitments Are semi-retired but still enjoy the work Are pursuing education Prefer a balanced schedule and variety What you'll doYou'll act as the HR function for multiple small businesses. In a typical week, you might: Coach a manager through a performance issue Support a termination or employee relations matter Handle the classic "I have a situation..." call Draft policies, agreements or HR documentation Recruit for open roles Review compensation Improve onboarding or HR processes Support workplace investigations Analyze engagement survey results Help implement HR systems Facilitate meetings or training Research employment standards questions Contribute to larger projects with senior consultants Some days will be predictable. Others will change at 9:07 a.m. when a client calls. That's fractional HR.Consulting is differentYou'll work across industries, leaders and problems. You need to be comfortable: Switching between clients Building relationships with business owners and leaders Giving practical advice when there isn't a perfect answer Managing your own priorities Having difficult conversations Spotting opportunities to help clients Talking about what A&A does You don't need to be a salesperson, but you do need to be commercially minded. What we're looking forIdeally, you bring: 10+ years of progressive HR experience Strong HR Advisor / HRBP background Solid employee relations and manager-coaching experience Confidence with performance management and terminations Experience with recruitment, policies, compensation and HR documentation Strong knowledge of Canadian employment legislation Excellent communication and critical-thinking skills Good judgment and the ability to make clear recommendations We don't expect you to know everything. We do expect you to research unfamiliar issues, think critically, form a recommendation and know when to pull in senior support.Bonus points for: CPHR, consulting experience, investigation training, union or non-profit experience, multi-jurisdictional HR, facilitation, analytics or HRIS experience.Hours & logisticsThis casual role targets 10-20 hours/week. At least 75% of your hours must overlap with our core business hours: Mon-Thu: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. MT Fri: 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. MT You don't need to sit at your computer waiting for work, but you do need daytime availability for meetings, calls and time-sensitive issues. Background work can happen whenever works for you. We're remote-first with occasional in-person client work. Calgary-area candidates are preferred, but we're open to applicants across Canada. This role is probably NOT for you if... You want 40 hours/week You need identical hours every week You dislike talking to people Networking makes you want to hide behind a plant You want a daily task list handed to you You want to specialize in one narrow HR area Fractional HR is broad, dynamic and relationship-driven.Why A&A?We're a boutique Canadian consulting firm supporting small and mid-sized organizations across the country. You can expect: Real flexibility Lots of variety A supportive team Opportunities to grow Bonus eligibility Community involvement through donations and pro-bono consulting One last thingWe're not looking for a unicorn. We're looking for an experienced HR professional with good judgment, strong people skills, curiosity and genuine interest in business. Someone who can build trust, handle the messy HR stuff, admit when they don't know something and ask for help when needed. If this sounds like the kind of role you've been looking for, we'd love to hear from you. If you need 40 hours/week, we wish you the best, but this one won't be the right fit.
