About Mission Bit

Mission Bit is a San Francisco-based nonprofit that equips youth with hands-on computer science and AI education that builds confidence, technical skills, and pathways to meaningful careers in technology. We offer a variety of hands-on STEM education programs, including semester- and year-long introductory coding courses, self-paced learning, workshops, and much more.

The role

As an In-school Instructor, you will be at the forefront of high-quality computer science education by delivering weekly lessons, connecting with students, and fostering an engaging and welcoming classroom environment. You will use Mission Bitโ€™s in-house project-based curriculum to plan and teach lessons focused on exploring computer science. This role is highly visible and student-facing. If you have a passion for community, social justice, and coding, and want to uplift Bay Area youth and bridge the tech divide, this might be the opportunity for you!

This is a temporary, part-time in-person role based at our partner high school sites in San Francisco, CA, and reports directly to the Education Program Manager. Weโ€™re proud to provide training to all instructional staff to prepare them to teach, along with ongoing support throughout the semester.

Hours

  • 15 +/- hours per week

Instructor Training

  • Live in-person training: August 5 - 14, 2026, generally between 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, at Mission Bit HQ and school site

Weekly Schedule

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM
  • Wednesday: Off

Class Schedule

  • August 17, 2026 - June 2, 2027
  • Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays: 10:50 AM - 11:50 AM
What youโ€™ll be doing

70% Teaching, prep, and student support

  • Create an inclusive and community-based classroom culture surrounding the Mission Bit core values of social justice, community, accountability, smart risks, and love
  • Prepare and facilitate four lessons per week to a diverse group of learners, adjusting your lessons appropriately to best meet studentsโ€™ learning needs
  • Ensure students are developing sufficient understanding to build their final project at the end of the semester
  • Foster individual and meaningful relationships with students
  • Grade student assessments

20% Professional collaboration

  • Communicate and collaborate with the schoolโ€™s teacher of record
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • You must be comfortable suggesting and implementing new ideas that improve the quality and integrity of Mission Bit and our curriculum. You understand that there are always new opportunities for improvement and ways to elevate our standards

10% Communication

  • Communicate course progress to students and their families
  • Communicate student progress and success throughout the course to the Program Staff and Innovative Learning Manager so that we can collectively support studentsโ€™ learning

Requirements

Weโ€™d love to hear from you if youโ€ฆ

  • Have a minimum of 1 year of teaching high school-age students in a formal education setting (STEM classroom experience preferred)
  • Associate's degree or higher in Education, Computer Science, or related fields. May be substituted with 2 years of formal classroom experience
  • Have demonstrated competence in Web Design (HTML/CSS) and Python (this may include college, bootcamps, internships, or workforce experience)
  • Have values aligned with Mission Bit and a passion for equity in STEM
  • Are comfortable in public speaking situations and have strong communication skills
  • Have experience working with a diverse group of individuals
  • Are self-starting with the ability to effectively work autonomously

Itโ€™s not required, but itโ€™s a nice bonus if youโ€ฆ

  • Have experience in project-based learning, asset-based teaching, and/or culturally relevant teaching
  • Are bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Arabic, Tagalog, or Samoan
