Job description

Position: School Van Driver

TAG-B Group LLC is seeking conscientious drivers with excellent customer service skills to transport students with disabilities to and from DC area schools. This is a split shift position, working 6am-9:30am and 2pm-5:30pm each school day Monday-Friday. This role operates on the DC public school schedule.

Experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred, but not required. Must have at least two years of professional driving experience transporting passengers.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide daily transportation for students with disabilities to and from school.
  • Reliable and punctual arrival at every pickup and drop-off location is paramount to this position.
  • Assist passengers when boarding and exiting the vehicle, to include the operation of specialized equipment such as wheelchair lifts and tie-downs.
  • Supervise students in the vehicle to ensure their safety, and enforce rules such as seat belt wearing.
  • Consistently provide excellent customer service with a friendly demeanor, can-do attitude, and willingness to help at all times.
  • Work with and without supervision and follow the direction of supervisors when requests are made.
  • Perform pre- and post-inspection activities to ensure proper operating conditions, adherence to Company & DOT standards, and compliance with proper safety and maintenance standards.
  • Prepare and submit accident/incident reports, and report other required information (both mechanical and cosmetic) in a timely manner.
  • Perform daily/routine cleaning and van maintenance activities.
  • Conduct re-fueling activities, to include maintaining assigned fuel usage logs.
  • Comply with Federal DOT requirements, State driving regulations, DCPS rules and all company safety rules and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with passengers, co-workers, supervisors, managers, etc.
  • Maintain alertness and be observant of any activity, both authorized and unauthorized, and take appropriate actions.
  • Perform other related/ additional duties and tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must have at least two years of professional driving experience transporting passengers.
  • Must be able to submit and pass a DOT medical exam, drug screen, TB screen, and criminal background check.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Maintain a professional appearance to include wearing provided uniforms.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Have a clean driving record with no negative points.
  • Ability to speak, read, and comprehend the English language.
  • Must be able to work in the United States.

SKILLS:

  • Ability to communicate professionally by conveying information effectively.
  • Must possess an outgoing and enthusiastic personality.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts/ hours (days & evenings ), including overtime, peak volume periods, vacated shifts.
  • Must be open to feedback, differing opinions, and other points of view.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and timeliness.
  • Demonstrate the ability to seek improvement.
  • Excellent team-building and interpersonal skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to work in the elements -- heat, wind, snow, rain, etc.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to drive continuously in the designated shuttle for a minimum of 2-3 hours.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, and lift frequently throughout a shift.
  • Ability to apply pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Ability to perform functions that require repetitive motions using hands, wrists, and arms.
  • Ability to perform functions that require repetitive motions using ankles, knees, and hips.
