Job Description
We are seeking a seasoned Systems Engineer III - Radio Coordinator to provide specialized technical support, consultation, and training for P25 digital trunking radio systems.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience supporting, configuring, maintaining, and installing radio systems and related technologies. This role will also assist with establishing hardware, software, networking, and operational standards for radio systems across multiple facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Support, configure, maintain, and install digital radio and P25 trunking systems.
  • Develop and implement standards for radio hardware, software, and network technologies.
  • Perform fleet mapping, radio inventory management, and Code Plug maintenance/audits.
  • Coordinate radio equipment purchases and ensure compatibility and cost effectiveness.
  • Assist with FCC radio frequency licensing and license maintenance.
  • Maintain tower licenses and coordinate FAA approvals when required.
  • Coordinate frequency usage with outside agencies for mutual aid and emergency response.
  • Work with vendors, contractors, engineers, and internal teams on radio system installations.
  • Assist with network connectivity for radio systems, including switches and other network equipment.
  • Install, configure, and back up workstations supporting IT-integrated radio systems.
  • Conduct site surveys and evaluate radio communication systems and services.
  • Assist with emergency backup resources and system-failure response.
  • Maintain consistent talk groups and communication trunking systems.
  • Provide technical consultation and recommendations regarding radio communications equipment.
  • Prepare technical documentation, project reports, questionnaires, surveys, and system diagrams.
  • Act as a liaison between users, vendors, manufacturers, and service providers.
  • Train staff on radio systems, equipment, and services.
  • Develop and coordinate training plans for technical and maintenance personnel.
  • Stay current with emerging radio communication technologies and industry standards.

Qualifications
  • 1-2+ years of experience supporting, configuring, maintaining, and installing radio systems and related technologies.
  • Experience with EF Johnson Radio Coordinator.
  • Knowledge of digital radio trunking systems and radio equipment.
  • Experience developing and implementing radio hardware, software, and network standards.
  • Experience with fleet mapping and maintaining/auditing Code Plug data for programmable radios.
  • Experience maintaining radio equipment inventories and coordinating equipment purchases.
  • Knowledge of FCC licensing procedures and requirements.
  • Knowledge of radio programming software and interface equipment.
  • Networking concepts and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Experience with copper and fiber-optic cabling.
  • Working knowledge of Windows OS and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to create technical documentation and detailed system diagrams.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple projects.

Additional Information

  • Network topology and troubleshooting experience.
  • Advanced PC skills.
  • Microsoft Visio or similar documentation software experience.

Additional Details :
  • Extensive hands-on field work is required.
  • Travel is primarily in-state day trips, with occasional overnight travel.
  • Candidates should be comfortable working directly with vendors, facilities, and technical teams.
  • Strong technical communication and problem-solving skills are essential.
