To thrive as a Tableau Contractor, you need strong data analysis skills, expertise in Tableau Desktop/Server, and a background in business intelligence or analytics. Familiarity with SQL, data modeling, and integration with databases, as well as Tableau certification, are typically expected. Excellent problem-solving abilities, communication, and adaptability help contractors understand client needs and deliver actionable insights. These skills ensure effective data visualization, accurate reporting, and client satisfaction in project-based environments.

Is Tableau still in demand?

Tableau remains in demand as a data visualization tool used across industries for business intelligence and analytics. Professionals with Tableau skills, along with knowledge of data analysis and certifications, are sought after for roles involving data reporting and dashboard development.

What is a Tableau contract?

Tableau contract jobs are temporary positions where professionals are hired to use Tableau, a data visualization and business intelligence tool, for a specific project or period. These roles often involve creating dashboards, analyzing data, and generating reports to help organizations make data-driven decisions. Contractors may work independently or as part of a team, and assignments can range from a few weeks to several months. Tableau contract jobs are ideal for those with strong Tableau skills who prefer flexible work arrangements.

Job description

Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Strathcona Resources Ltd. is one of North America's fastest growing pure play heavy oil producers with operations focused on thermal oil and enhanced oil recovery near the Cold Lake and Lloydminster regions of Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Strathcona is committed to doing business the right way, guided by our core values: Integrity, Energy, and Intelligence. These values define who we are as a company, how we work together, and how we make decisions: We prioritize respect, accountability, and collaboration. That means everyone can shape and strengthen our culture and drive results in meaningful ways. Our people bring energy and curiosity to solve problems and deliver results. Be part of a team where performance, collaboration, and innovation come together to drive success.

We are seeking a skilled Contract Data Analyst to join our Analytics team in Calgary for an 18-month term. Reporting to the Team Lead, Analytics, you will work closely with internal stakeholders and our analytics team to deliver high-quality, consistent, and scalable data products across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in Databricks and Tableau, paired with a solid understanding of upstream and corporate oil and gas data.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain Tableau dashboards and other data products to support business needs across various teams, ensuring established best practices and data governance

  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand requirements, translate them into effective visual analytics, and iterate based on feedback

  • Collaborate closely with internal data and analytics team members to ensure consistency, scalability, and maintainability of solutions

  • Support dashboard testing, validation, documentation, and knowledge transfer as required

  • Determine appropriate joins, transformations, and cleaning steps required to prepare raw data for analytics use cases

Qualifications:

  • Strong working knowledge of Databricks, or other data lake platforms, including querying and working with curated and raw datasets

  • Experience working with enterprise data across multiple functional domains

  • Proven experience developing dashboards in Tableau

  • Experience designing solutions for spreadsheet inputs and writeback or feedback loops within reporting workflows

  • Oil and gas industry experience; experience with Maximo or similar enterprise asset/work management systems is considered an asset.

  • Experience working within governed analytics environments and following established BI standards

  • Experience supporting self-service analytics initiatives

  • Understanding of data lake concepts

  • Demonstrated ability to work with raw data, assess data quality, and independently determine how to join and clean datasets

Great things aren't done by one person, they're done by a team.

We believe meaningful results come from people with unwavering commitment to integrity, energy, and intelligence - how we show up matters just as much as what we deliver. We value our work, our communities, and our commitments - but most of all, we value the team of people who make what we do possible.

Apply to Strathcona

If you have what it takes to be a great Strathcona team member, we want to hear from you. We appreciate all interest in this opportunity but only those selected to advance through the process will be contacted.
