Job description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a talented and self-motivated Warehousing & Transportation Environmental Program Manager to support AWS Manufacturing, Test, and Operations (MOTO) facilities. The successful candidate will join the AWS Environmental team โ€” an expanding and dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWSโ€™s growth around the world, as well as ensuring regulatory compliance and the highest-level environmental performance of AWSโ€™s warehousing and transportation operations.

This role sits within the MOTO Environmental organization and owns the Warehousing and Transportation Operations environmental compliance portfolio โ€” a standalone pillar covering Receiving/Distribution Centers (RDCs), Multi-Function Centers (MFCs), and DC/FC facilities (DCFCs) across AMER. This is a new high-impact, ground-floor opportunity to build programs and establish compliance infrastructure from scratch. You will collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards of environmental performance for our warehousing and logistics facilities and our customers, and you will experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

A critical component of this role is supporting infrastructure development through environmental programs โ€” conducting site selection environmental assessments, supporting greenfield permitting for new facility acquisitions, and ensuring environmental compliance during facility buildout and construction phases. This individual will be a key environmental partner to real estate, facilities, and construction teams as MOTOโ€™s warehousing and transportation footprint grows.

This role is based in Herndon, VA (IAD Hub), Seattle, WA (SEA Hub), or Salt Lake City, UT (SLC warehouse).

Key job responsibilities
  • 1. Leadership & Commitment - Own and evolve the MOTO Warehousing & Transportation environmental compliance program to meet changing organizational needs, stakeholder expectations, and regulatory requirements. Champion environmental responsibility across the W&T portfolio and advocate for best-in-class environmental practices at all RDC, MFC, and DCFC facilities.
  • 2. Infrastructure Development & New Facility Support - Lead environmental due diligence reviews for new W&T facility acquisitions, including Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments and pre-lease environmental screening to identify liability and compliance risk prior to execution. Serve as the environmental compliance owner during facility buildout and construction phases for new W&T sites โ€” Partner with MOTO real estate, facilities, and construction teams to embed environmental compliance requirements into project timelines, contracts, and buildout milestones.
  • 3. Portfolio Compliance Management โ€” RDCs, MFCs, and DCFCs - Establish and maintain environmental compliance coverage for the full MOTO Warehousing & Transportation portfolio โ€” beginning with facility inventory and classification, regulatory applicability screening, and risk-based prioritization across all RDC, MFC, and DCFC sites.
  • 4. Hazardous Materials Management - Manage hazardous materials permitting, monitoring, and reporting across W&T facilities; maintain accurate hazmat inventories and ensure Tier II/EPCRA compliance where applicable.
  • 5. Stormwater Management - Develop, implement, and maintain Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) for all applicable W&T facilities; ensure compliance with industrial stormwater permit requirements under NPDES and applicable state-level general permits.
  • 6. Spill Prevention & Emergency Response -Develop and maintain spill prevention and emergency response protocols for W&T facilities; coordinate with operations teams to ensure response plans are current, trained to, and tested. Manage spill incident reporting and corrective action for W&T sites; conduct thorough incident investigations and develop appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
  • 7. Waste Management - Manage waste characterization, manifesting, tracking, and disposal compliance for all W&T facilities in AMER; ensure compliance with RCRA hazardous waste regulations, universal waste rules, and applicable state-equivalent waste programs. Coordinate with waste haulers and treatment, storage, and disposal (TSD) facilities to ensure proper handling, transport, and disposal of all waste streams generated across the W&T portfolio. Develop waste reduction and circular economy initiatives across the W&T portfolio; establish waste metrics and track performance against reduction targets.
  • 8. Vendor & Contractor Environmental Compliance - Oversee environmental compliance for vendors and contractors operating within W&T facilities; develop and enforce environmental performance requirements in contractor agreements and facility leases. Develop environmental lease language standards for W&T facilities; conduct lease compliance inspections and remediate identified environmental obligations with landlords and tenants.
  • 9. Collaboration - Collaborate with environmental, operations, legal, policy, real estate, and sustainability teams to ensure the W&T environmental program remains relevant, effective, and aligned with evolving regulatory requirements across all MOTO W&T facilities.
  • 10. Performance Evaluation - Establish and manage a robust system for monitoring, measuring, and reporting environmental compliance performance across the W&T portfolio. Conduct regular assessments of environmental tools and processes across W&T sites; collate and analyze compliance data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement. Develop environmental metrics to measure, monitor, and forecast performance across the W&T portfolio; prepare and contribute to performance reports for senior leadership on a regular cadence.
A day in the life

Day-to-day, this role manages environmental compliance across the MOTO Warehousing & Transportation portfolio โ€” reviewing regulatory applicability for new and existing facilities, coordinating DOT hazmat shipping compliance with logistics teams, managing stormwater inspection schedules and SWPPP updates, tracking waste manifests and disposal vendor performance, and supporting facility teams on environmental permit requirements. The role simultaneously works upstream โ€” partnering with real estate and construction teams to conduct site selection environmental assessments, supporting greenfield permitting for new W&T sites, and ensuring environmental compliance is fully embedded in facility buildout timelines before a building goes live.
