The After-School Academy program is comprised of students grades K-5 who receive daily instruction in core subject areas and provides enrichment activities. The Program Assistant provides support to the classroom teacher in implementation of the daily lesson plans and group activities. The person in the role must embody Peter Paul's values and share a passion for the mission by overseeing a high quality, safe experience for all students. All Peter Paul employees are expected to maintain high expectations for self, colleagues, students and families and must maintain a professional, ethical and responsible attitude to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.
Primary Responsibilities
• Support the program with implementation of daily lesson plans and group activities
• Assist in developing critical thinking, reasoning, writing and grammar skills in support of overall classroom culture
• Encourage group thinking, curiosity and discovery
• Assist in the implementation of Peter Paul's daily expectations and behavior system
• Participate in weekly staff meetings and serve on planning and special events committees
• Commitment to total classroom engagement
• Required to wear face mask daily and practice physical distancing when possible
• Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent; currently enrolled in college courses
• Experience working with school age students
• Strong classroom management and organization skills
• Experience and/or desire to work with high-potential students
• Excellent oral communication skills
• Knowledge of current educational research
• Understanding of and familiarity working in an urban setting
• COVID-19 Vaccine is required (medical or religious exemptions may be accepted but require weekly COVID-19 testing)
Additional Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
• Experience working in the Virginia Standards of Learning
• Experience driving a passenger van/bus; CDL a plus
Compensation and Benefits
This is a part-time, hourly position that is expected to work Monday-Friday during program hours ranging from 2:00 pm -6:30 pm (up to 20 hours per week) and will receive additional hours for team meetings and educational training.
Compensation: $16.00 per hour
