Systems Logistics Engineer information

What is the difference between Systems Logistics Engineer vs Supply Chain Analyst?

AspectSystems Logistics EngineerSupply Chain Analyst
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Engineering, Logistics, or related field; certifications like CSCP or APICSBachelor's in Business, Supply Chain, or related; certifications like CSCP or APICS
Work EnvironmentEngineering teams, logistics departments, manufacturing facilitiesOffice settings, data analysis, planning teams
Employer & Industry UsageManufacturing, aerospace, defense, logistics companiesRetail, manufacturing, consulting firms

Both roles involve supply chain processes and certifications like CSCP or APICS. However, Systems Logistics Engineers focus on designing and optimizing logistics systems from an engineering perspective, often working closely with technical teams. Supply Chain Analysts primarily analyze data to improve supply chain efficiency, focusing on planning and strategy. While overlapping in industry and credentials, their core responsibilities differ in technical design versus data analysis.

How much do systems logistics engineers make in the US?

Systems logistics engineers in the US typically earn a median annual salary of around $80,000 to $110,000, depending on experience, location, and industry. Salaries can increase with specialized skills, certifications, and advanced degrees, especially in sectors like aerospace, defense, and manufacturing.

What jobs can I get with a systems logistics engineer degree?

A systems logistics engineer degree prepares individuals for roles such as logistics analyst, supply chain manager, operations engineer, or systems analyst. These positions involve managing complex systems, optimizing supply chains, and using tools like ERP software, often requiring strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Certification in project management or logistics can enhance job prospects in this field.

Job description

Position Summary

The Warehouse and Logistics Engineer designs, implements, and continuously improves engineering solutions for internal and external warehouse operations and internal logistics flows that support Gotion's manufacturing environment. This role combines hands-on warehouse operations knowledge with engineering rigor - analyzing material flow, layout, equipment, and process data to reduce cost, improve throughput, and increase accuracy across 3PL and on-site warehouse locations. The ideal candidate is self-propelled, creative, and comfortable building solutions from the ground up in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement engineering solutions for internal logistics, including material flow, warehouse layout, racking/storage configuration, and equipment selection to support production and shipping requirements.
  • Manage and optimize internal and external (3PL) warehouse operations, monitoring inventory levels, accuracy, and availability to meet production and customer demand.
  • Analyze warehouse and logistics data (throughput, cycle counts, labor utilization, space utilization) to identify bottlenecks and develop data-driven improvement plans.
  • Lead or support implementation and optimization of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and related material handling technology, including integration with ERP/SAP.
  • Evaluate, specify, and support material handling equipment (forklifts, conveyors, racking, automation) to improve safety, efficiency, and ergonomics.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for warehouse operations, internal logistics, and material handling.
  • Partner with production, procurement, planning, and quality teams to align internal logistics and warehouse processes with manufacturing schedules and new product launches.
  • Support compliance with safety regulations, site safety standards, and (where applicable) Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) procedures and hazardous materials handling requirements.
  • Provide training to warehouse and logistics personnel on new processes, equipment, and systems.
  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to warehouse operations, internal logistics, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects using lean/Six Sigma or similar methodologies to enhance warehouse and internal logistics performance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics/Supply Chain, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in warehouse engineering, internal logistics engineering, material handling engineering, or a similar role, within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience designing or improving warehouse layouts, material flow, and internal logistics processes.
  • Hands-on experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and/or ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable engineering and process solutions.
  • Self-propelled and creative problem-solver, comfortable working independently and building new processes with limited precedent.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills, able to work effectively with production, procurement, quality, and external logistics providers.
Preferred / Nice to Have
  • Experience working within a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) environment.
  • Bilingual in Mandarin Chinese and English - significant plus given close coordination with China-based teams and suppliers.
  • Experience working with hazardous materials handling, storage, and compliance.
  • Experience in the battery, energy storage, or EV manufacturing industry.
  • Certification such as APICS CPIM/CSCP, Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Lean/Six Sigma, or a Professional Engineer (PE) designation.
Work Environment
  • Combination of office and warehouse/production floor environment; regular time on the warehouse floor and at 3PL sites is expected.
  • May require occasional travel to 3PL warehouse locations or other Gotion facilities.
