Job description

Position Description: Advanced Navigation and Positioning Corporation (ANPC) develops, manufactures, and deploys high-accuracy 3D tracking, navigation, and surveillance systems for defense and civil aviation.Historically known for transponder-based landing platforms (TLS/TTLS) that operate in challenging terrain, ANPC is expanding its product portfolio into multi-sensor tactical surveillance, active radar tracking, and autonomous platform integration. Headquartered in Hood River, Oregon, ANPC combines hardware-in-the-loop engineering, real-time signal processing, and live field flight-testing to deliver mission-critical positioning solutions worldwide.Job SummaryAdvanced Navigation and Positioning Corporation (ANPC) is seeking a Systems Engineer specializing in Radar & Sensor Integration to join our engineering team in Hood River. This role combines core systems engineering disciplines across our aerospace product lifecycle with hands-on technical ownership of primary radar selection, multi-sensor integration, and signal performance optimization.Working alongside our broader Systems Engineering team, you will ensure our multi-sensor surveillance platforms are high-performing, robust, and field-ready—bridging the gap between physical sensor hardware, system-level software fusion, and real-world flight testing.Essential Job Functions• Evaluate customer and operational needs to define performance, functional, and interface requirements for new tracking and surveillance systems. Maintain end-to-end traceability across hardware and software.• Lead the technical evaluation, selection, physical integration, and protocol interface (ICDs) of primary radar sensors (AESA, X-band/mmWave, 3D/4D radar) into ANPC’s platform architecture.• Perform hands-on configuration, signal tuning, and field calibration of radar hardware to maximize target detection, optimize Doppler processing, and reduce false-alarm rates in complex environments.• Define complex interfaces and lead data stream integration across primary radars, optical gimbals, passive sensors, and software fusion engines.• Ut Model overall system performance and signal propagation using tools like MATLAB or HFSS to validate proof-of-concept designs prior to hardware build.• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams on system partitioning, interface definitions, and lower-level requirement allocations supporting safety-critical aerospace standards.• Plan, execute, and document system verification tests and live customer demonstrations locally in the Columbia River Gorge and at customer field sites globally.Education and Work Experience Requirements• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Computer Engineering.• 6+ years of direct experience in systems engineering, hardware integration, and field testing for primary radar, RF, or multi-sensor tactical systems.• Alternative Military Experience: 4+ years of active-duty military service in Tactical Radar Integration, Fire Control Systems, Radar Operations/Maintenance, or Avionics (e.g., USAF Avionics, Army Radar/EW Specialist, Navy Fire Control/Radar Technician) combined with systems engineering experience.• Ability to support local field testing and periodic domestic or international customer trials.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics• Hands-on experience setting up, calibrating, and troubleshooting radar sensors and high-frequency RF systems.• Proven ability to connect different hardware sensors—such as radar, cameras, or wireless links—into a unified software platform.• Skilled at using standard lab and field test equipment (Spectrum Analyzers, Oscilloscopes) to diagnose and fix hardware/software connection issues.• Experience using analysis tools (like MATLAB or similar modeling software) to evaluate system performance and signal coverage.• Clear technical writing skills for creating system requirements, test plans, and engineering reports.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Essential functions may require maintaining the physical condition necessary for sitting, walking or standing for periods of time; operating a computer and keyboard; talk and hear at normal room levels; using hands to finger, grasp, and feel; repetitive motion; close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; lift, push, carry, or pull up to 20 pounds. While traveling, work will be conducted outdoors, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions including rain, snow, heat and cold. The role may require physical activity including lifting equipment, climbing ladders and navigating uneven terrain. Work environmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job in both office and field settings. The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet to moderate, with exposure to typical office equipment such as computers, printers, and telephones. In contrast, the fieldwork environment at customer sites may vary significantly, with exposure to high-traffic areas and the need to adhere to strict safety protocols. Employees will collaborate with diverse teams, including engineers and airport personnel, in various cultural settings, enhancing adaptability and communication skills. The role requires flexibility to work in different environments, often under varying conditions, while maintaining a focus on safety and efficiency. In addition to base pay, our competitive total rewards package consists of:• 401(k) plan with match, with 100% vesting immediately.• Comprehensive suite of insurance benefits for employees (and their families) to include a variety of medical plan options (including an HSA with employer contribution), dental, vision, life and disability insurance, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Legal/Identity support plans, pet insurance.• Access to Flexible Spending Accounts (medical, transit and Dependent Care).• Generous paid time off including 4 weeks of vacation per year.• 11 paid company holidays, which includes winter company shutdown between Christmas and New Year’s.
