What are some common challenges faced by SystemC Modeling Engineers when collaborating with hardware and software teams?
What are SystemC Modeling Engineers?
What is the difference between Systemc Modeling Engineer vs Hardware Design Engineer?
| Aspect | Systemc Modeling Engineer | Hardware Design Engineer |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Focus | Developing system-level models using SystemC for simulation and verification | Designing and implementing hardware components and circuits |
| Required Skills | SystemC, C++, hardware architecture, modeling techniques | VHDL/Verilog, FPGA/ASIC design, circuit analysis |
| Work Environment | Embedded systems, simulation labs, software development | Hardware labs, manufacturing facilities, design teams |
| Industry Usage | Electronics, embedded systems, system architecture | Consumer electronics, telecommunications, semiconductor industry |
While both roles involve working with hardware and system design, the Systemc Modeling Engineer primarily focuses on creating high-level models for simulation and verification, whereas the Hardware Design Engineer concentrates on designing physical hardware components. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job search focus.

Job description
NVIDIA is seeking an experienced technical leader passionate about defining advanced chip interconnects and protocols. You'll be part of a team responsible for defining next generation communications standards and products building on our current NVLink technology. The job scope ranges from developing initial product requirements, working with research, other architects, software/firmware and product development teams to shepherd the design through all phases of the product lifecycle.
What you will be doing:
- Working with other architects to define architectural modeling and testing requirements for new NVLink features
- Driving architectural testing requirements into lower level testbenches
- Implementing functional models and integrating those into fullchip and multichip environments for both architectural validation and firmware/software development
- Supporting and debugging tests in model, emulation, and post-silicon environments
What we need to see:
- You have a MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- At least 8+ years of relevant experience in some combination of architecture, design, and verification
- Firsthand work experience with innovative ASIC design processes
- C++ and scripting language (Python, Makefile) experience; SystemC modeling a plus
- Strong debugging skills in FW/SW environments and IP model integration
- Testplan development and execution experience
- You've completed and shipped multiple projects and are skilled at processor and/or I/O Architecture.
- A self-starter excited to work as part of a small dynamic team
NVIDIA is widely considered to be one of the technology world's most desirable employers. We have some of the most forward-thinking and hardworking people in the world working for us. If you're creative, autonomous and love a challenge, we want to hear from you!
