Summary of Job Duties:The Senior Inpatient Audit & Billing Compliance Specialist will work on the Inpatient Coding Team while providing training, auditing, and review processes for Inpatient Coding functions. The services could be part of a regular audit schedule or could be ad hoc audits based on whether there is an inpatient coder in training. This position will be the inpatient coding educator and will track all new coding regulations and prepare in-services for inpatient coders at a minimum, quarterly. This position will need to possess highly qualified DRG knowledge and have training qualifications.
This position requires critical, independent thinking and decision-making skills.
Training any inpatient coding trainees
Monitor and review inpatient coding trainees daily
Utilize the reviews as training material
Set up quarterly audit schedules for all inpatient coders.
Prepare in-service for inpatient coding quarterly for the inpatient group, focusing on areas of weakness identified during the audit process.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree plus 5 years' experience in coding/auditing functions or nursing OR a High School diploma plus 9 years' experience in professional coding/auditing functions or nursing.
  • Must have current RN, or CCS, CCS-P or CPC certification and an understanding of the revenue cycle.
  • Critical thinking skills for this position are crucial. This position requires independent decision making skills. This position must determine if processes are being completed correctly and be able to discuss with leaders findings.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer at least 10-15 years of DRG Coding and thorough knowledge of AHA Coding Clinics
  • Prefer five successful years working with Senior Leadership members, preparing and presenting reports.
  • CPMA or CEMC certification.
