Leidos is seeking a Systems Integration & Test Engineer who will be a member of a dynamic team on the Terminal Flight Data Manager (TFDM) program. TFDM is a system that will improve aircraft runway and terminal congestion. Nationwide congestion is increasing, and the need for efficient aircraft traffic planning is critical. TFDM is the surface management solution that will provide NextGen Air Traffic Control capabilities to improve air traffic operations in the National Airspace System (NAS).

TFDM program is a Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) NextGen program based on airport surface management provides that efficiencies for both the airport surface and terminal airspace by providing a new and comprehensive integrated surface traffic control and management system.

Systems Integration Test Engineer responsibilities:

Working both as a member of a team and independently, the successful candidate will:


Perform testing in Physical and Virtual test labs to ensure the system, test procedure, and test inputs are prepared to execute with the customer present

Execute procedures that verify the system is properly configured and operating in the NAS

Coordinate activities, communication, and planning efforts with FAA and Leidos personnel

Debug system level issues and provide detailed supporting data on identified issues

Able to understand System Level Requirements and perform system interface checkouts

Work with team lead to provide guidance to fellow test team members and ensure team goals are appropriately set to meet all program milestones

Execute commands for remote support staff (ILE/Networking) and provide feedback to solve problems remotely

Analyze identified issues in conjunction with System Engineering and Software in regard to developing solutions

Develop innovative and automated solutions that streamline repetitive tasks and significantly improve operational efficiency.

Learn system architecture, design, functions and capabilities to support the integration and test of the new capabilities and enhancements

Collaborate with the TFDM system engineering team to develop test approaches for new and modified requirements

Execute commands for remote support staff (ILE/Networking) and provide feedback to solve problems remotely

Ability to conduct Testing at Air Traffic Control Towers (ATCT) in operational site conditions with the FAA customer when required

Perform formal test execution with the customer and quality assurance organizations

Coordinate activities, communication, and planning efforts with FAA and Leidos personnel

Able to understand XML data and ability to troubleshoot connection issues with network configurations, IP addresses, JMS queue configurations, etc.

Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate testing, automation of scripts, and test creation

Integrate services with databases, messaging systems, and external APIs

Demonstrate test execution to the FAA on a run for record to achieve customer acceptance of the content per release

Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Be able to support travel (25% of time)

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 6+ years of professional experience; or 4+ years of professional experience with a related Master's degree
Candidate must be able to obtain an SF-85P Public Trust clearance from the FAA customer
Strong Experience with UNIX/Linux operating, troubleshoot connection /network configurations skills

Expertise in scripting (Python, shell scripting) for data processing, analysis, and system integration

Experience or exposure to AI/ML-enabled systems (Claude-Code), automation, or intelligent platforms
Experience in following a documented Integration and Test Development Process
Strong integration skills with hands-on experience integrating large software complex systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interface with internal and external customers
Willing to collaborate with FAA customer on sites to build system knowledge

Desired Skills:

The successful candidate will possess advanced integration skills and the ability to work independently in the following categories of integration:

  • New system functionality integration
  • External Interface integration checkouts during risk reduction activities
  • Regression testing
  • Analyzing identified issues and help determine a solution
  • Problem identification/analysis

A good academic understanding and/or exposure to system engineering practices to contribute to and/or assist with system integration, requirements engineering, operational and decision analysis, systems definition, requirements baseline control and management.

FAA Air Traffic Domain Knowledge

Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate formal test events

Knowledge of interfacing systems in the NAS such as FDIO, STARS, TBFM, ASDE-X
