System Implementation Manager information

What does a system implementation manager do?

A System Implementation Manager oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of new software or technology systems within an organization. They coordinate between technical teams, stakeholders, and vendors to ensure the system meets business requirements and is implemented on time and within budget. Their responsibilities include managing project timelines, training staff, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring a smooth transition from old to new systems. Effective communication and strong project management skills are essential for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a system implementation manager?

To thrive as a System Implementation Manager, you need strong project management skills, technical expertise in IT systems, and typically a relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with ERP software, CRM platforms, project management tools like Jira or MS Project, and certifications such as PMP or ITIL is often required. Outstanding communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help drive cross-functional collaboration and manage stakeholder expectations. These skills and qualifications ensure successful system rollouts, minimize disruptions, and align technology solutions with organizational goals.

What are some common challenges faced by a system implementation manager during large-scale deployments?

System Implementation Managers often encounter challenges such as coordinating across multiple departments, managing project timelines, and ensuring clear communication among stakeholders. One significant hurdle is handling unexpected technical issues or integration problems that arise during deployment, which requires quick problem-solving and adaptability. Additionally, balancing user training needs and minimizing disruptions to daily operations are key aspects of the role. Successful managers proactively address these challenges by fostering collaboration, maintaining detailed project plans, and continuously engaging with both technical teams and end-users.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end ISO 45001 safety management system implementation for clients, including gap analysis and certification.

  • Conduct safety assessments, compliance inspections, and systematic audits at client sites.

  • Develop system documentation, policies, and procedures aligned with ISO 45001 and Ontario standards.

Job description

About Cobalt Safety Consulting

At Cobalt Safety Consulting, we don't just advise on safety, we build it from the ground up. Our team works across industries throughout the GTA and Ontario, partnering with organizations to design and implement ISO 45001 safety management systems that go far beyond checkbox compliance. What sets us apart? Our team includes former Ministry of Labour Investigators and Trainers and we bring that regulatory depth into everything we do.

The Opportunity

Most safety professionals spend their careers inside a single organization, maintaining systems someone else built. At Cobalt, you'll be an architect of change across dozens of client environments. You'll walk into manufacturing plants, construction sites and industrial facilities, diagnose the gaps, build the framework and leave behind a safety culture that actually works.

This is a hands-on, client-facing consulting role where you own your projects and see your systems make a real difference. It's challenging work. It requires travel, tight deadlines and the ability to bring skeptical site managers on board. If that sounds like the kind of problem you enjoy solving, keep reading.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead end-to-end ISO 45001 safety management system implementation for diverse Ontario clients, from initial gap analysis through to certification;
  • Conduct detailed safety assessments, workplace compliance inspections and systematic audits;
  • Develop system documentation, policies and procedures aligned with ISO 45001 and Ontario Provincial standards;
  • Provide hands-on technical consultation and guidance to client teams throughout the implementation process;
  • Build client-side internal capabilities so organizations can sustain their systems long after certification;
  • Monitor and report on safety performance metrics to both management and client stakeholders;
  • Identify hazards, develop remedial action recommendations and track progress across multiple concurrent projects; and
  • Collaborate with certification bodies and support clients in maintaining certification and achieving continuous improvement.

What You Bring

Required

  • 3–5 years of experience in health and safety, with a relevant educational background;
  • Proven hands-on experience with ISO 45001 implementation and maintenance;
  • ISO 45001 Internal Auditor Certificate (minimum);
  • Solid working knowledge of Ontario safety regulations and Ministry of Labour requirements;
  • Strong communication skills, you can write a clear policy and explain it to a skeptical plant manager;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; and
  • Valid Driver's License, access to a vehicle and willingness to travel to client sites across the GTA and Ontario.

Strong Assets

  • Background in construction, manufacturing or industrial safety; and
  • Professional designation: CRSP, CRST, NCSO or equivalent, if you're working toward one, tell us.

Why Cobalt?

  • Compensation: $80,000 – $100,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications, plus mileage reimbursement for client travel;
  • Learning that's genuinely rare: Access to exclusive Masterclass training delivered by former Ministry of Labour Investigators and Trainers, the kind of regulatory depth you simply can't find elsewhere;
  • Autonomy: You'll own your client relationships and your project outcomes, this isn't a role where someone micromanages your day;
  • Variety: No two client sites are the same, you'll work across industries and build a breadth of experience most safety professionals never get; and
  • Career growth: A supportive team environment that's serious about your professional development, whether that means pursuing your CRSP, deepening your ISO expertise or taking on more complex client engagements.

Working Conditions

  • Office-based out of the GTA with regular travel to client sites across Ontario;
  • Monday to Friday; occasional weekend availability may be required; and
  • Collaborative team environment working alongside Cobalt Safety professionals and external certification bodies.

Ready to Apply?

If you're a driven safety professional ready to bring your ISO 45001 expertise into a consulting environment, and build systems that genuinely protect people, we'd like to hear from you.

Apply now and tell us about an ISO 45001 or safety management system implementation you're proud of.
