The Propeller Systems Engineering organization is seeking an experienced Hydromechanical Design Engineer to support both in-service propeller products and new product development. This role spans across concept, design, verification and validation, and field support activities across military and commercial platforms. The position involves collaboration within propellers engineering, manufacturing, and program office as well as occasional interactions with U.S. military customers, operators, maintainers, airframe manufacturers, and engine manufacturers.


The ideal candidate brings strong hydromechanical components and systems design, analysis, and test expertise with hydraulic valves, actuators, flyweight governors, EHSV’s, solenoids, and other typical hydraulic system components (seals, orifices, pin plugs, hydraulic housings, etc.).

This is an onsite position in Windsor Locks, CT.

The Propeller System’s engineering organization in Windsor Locks is a small organization in comparison to many other product lines providing excellent opportunities for motivated engineers to work across multiple specialties supporting the full lifecycle of a product. In this role the hydromechanical design engineer will directly influence the product design, safety, reliability, and performance of propeller systems used across global military and commercial fleets.

What You Will Do

  • Perform design activities across all phases of the design cycle, concept & optimization, preliminary through detailed design, development, validation, certification, manufacturing, and operational service

  • Design mechanical components and assemblies with an emphasis on manufacturability, reliability, and maintainability

  • Provide technical leadership for medium to large projects.

  • Engage with suppliers for sizing and selection of supplier design components (pumps, valves, EHSV and motors)

  • Disposition of production non-conforming material including coordination with other disciplines as needed (materials engineering, systems engineering, etc.)

  • Interact with internal customers, external customers, vendors and suppliers

  • Participate in internal and external product design engineering teams and reviews

  • Support a collaborative engineering environment by cross-training fellow engineers, participating in peer reviews, and contributing to team problem-solving

  • Domestic and international travel may be required to support suppliers and customers (less than 10%)

Must Have Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience

  • Familiarity with ANSI Y14.5M-1982 (drawing interpretation)

  • Experience with hydraulic mechanical system design, analysis, and verification

  • Experience with designing mechanical assemblies with standard parts (seals, screws, bearings, plugs and pin)

  • Experience in the use of typical Microsoft Office programs such as: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Explorer

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to present to customers, operators, and all levels of leadership internally & externally

  • Experience with CAD software

  • Capable to lead technical teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering degree

  • Familiarity with FAA requirements

  • Experience with Siemens NX (Unigraphics)

  • Hydraulic system analyses (lapped fit leakage, orifice flow, system pressure drop analyses, design for valve/system stability)

  • Design analyses (structural hand calculations, FEA, thermal analysis, tolerance stack-up, etc.)

  • Aerospace experience

  • Engineering and RRCA (relentless root cause analysis) investigations

  • Full life cycle engineering experience

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
