Location: On-site in Lynchburg, Virginia.
BWXT offers paid internships along with a housing stipend for those interns whose home of record is more than 50 miles from Lynchburg, VA. Internships will last approximately 10-12 weeks. At the end of the internship, each intern has the opportunity to present their completed work/ assigned projects to the leadership team.
Your Day to Day as a Fire Protection Engineer Intern:
Fire Protection Engineering intern will be mentored in learning basic Fire Protection principles and analytical methodologies. They will be engaged in day-to-day operations including audits, change management, and safety analyses. Supporting duties would include:
  • Review and update Fire Protection and Industrial Health & Safety Technical Work Records
  • Overview fire protection systems, inspect building occupancy, life safety code enforcement, sprinkler system design review, hydraulic calculations, and service water design review.
  • Support Emergency Team readiness
    • Assist with fire protection equipment inspections.
    • Participate in audits of manufacturing facility.
    • Review, edit procedures and facility fire and emergency plans

Required Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in B.S. or MS degree in Engineering/Technical/Science with focus in Fire Protection.
  • Must be US Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q clearance.

Pay: $29.50
The starting hourly rate for this position in Virginia (US-VA) is expected to be $29.50 per hour. The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify the hourly rate (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation, or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or applicable department/team performance, and other market factors.
