SUMMARY:

The role leads SYGMA's carrier procurement, transportation pricing, and logistics execution activities supporting $35M-$50M in annual Logistics Earned Income revenue. This role is accountable for the strategic development and management of an asset-based carrier network, oversight of $7M-$10M in annual transportation spend, and the performance of 25-50 carrier partnerships.

As the enterprise subject matter expert for transportation pricing, carrier procurement, and freight market strategy, the Manager, Carrier Procurement & Commercial Operations leads carrier sourcing, negotiations, onboarding, and performance management while supporting customer transportation RFPs, contract pricing, and revenue growth initiatives. The role partners closely with customers, and SYGMA Sales, Operations, Merchandising, and Executive Leadership to drive margin expansion, increase customer wallet share, improve transportation costs, and optimize service performance.

Leading a team of up to five Freight Procurement Specialists, this position drives key financial and operational KPIs while serving as a critical link between customers, carriers, sales, and distribution operations to deliver scalable logistics solutions and support enterprise growth objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Accountable for the enterprise strategy, execution, and financial performance of SYGMA's LEI carrier procurement and logistics operations, supporting $35M-$50M in annual revenue through strategic carrier partnerships, network optimization, and operational excellence.
  • Owns financial performance for SYGMA's $35M-$50M LEI business, delivering $1M-$1.5M in annual margin expansion and driving revenue growth through strategic pricing, carrier procurement, and transportation network optimization.
  • Establishes and governs enterprise LEI pricing and profitability strategies, setting direction for carrier programs, quick-pay initiatives, and transportation rate negotiations while ensuring compliance with Sysco carrier onboarding, risk management, and performance standards.
  • Serves as a strategic partner to Sysco and SYGMA executive leadership, influencing enterprise initiatives and aligning cross-functional priorities across Sales, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Finance, and Operations to drive profitable growth, operational efficiency, and customer value.
  • Leads development & expansion of a national asset-based carrier network across all SYGMA sites, increasing asset-based carrier utilization from 25% to 80% of LEI shipments to improve cost efficiency, service reliability, & network performance.
  • Drives enterprise-wide alignment across SYGMA Sales, Merchandising, Logistics, Finance, and Distribution Centers to ensure coordinated execution of carrier strategies, supplier programs, and customer solutions that optimize cost, service performance, and revenue growth.
  • Serves as lead for strategic carrier relationships and high-value negotiations, driving optimal commercial terms, capacity agreements, and service performance while expanding LEI growth opportunities and managing financial & supply chain risk.
  • Owns SYGMA logistics service and operational performance, driving key KPIs including tender acceptance, on-time pickup and delivery, freight spend, and supply chain efficiency to ensure consistent delivery against customer commitments.
  • Establishes SYGMA governance and standardization for carrier onboarding in alignment with Sysco carrier requirements, with a focus on risk management, compliance, and fraud detection.
  • Acts as the senior escalation authority for high-impact customer, carrier, and supply chain issues, driving rapid resolution to minimize business disruption and protect service and financial performance.
  • Leads SYGMA-wide transformation, continuous improvement, and change management initiatives, including deployment of systems, tools, and reporting capabilities that enhance scalability, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Represents SYGMA in strategic customer supply chain engagements and Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), building executive-level partnerships that drive mutual cost, service, and revenue optimization opportunities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in transportation procurement, carrier management, freight brokerage, or logistics operations within a national or enterprise-scale environment.
  • Experience in Carrier Sales, Truckload Pricing, and/or Carrier Procurement within a $100M+ national freight brokerage, with responsibility for $5M+ transportation spend or $25M+ revenue portfolios.
  • Proven track record of negotiating carrier contracts, pricing, and capacity solutions that deliver measurable financial impact.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, and customer stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • 8-12+ years of experience in carrier procurement, transportation pricing, logistics leadership, or freight brokerage within a large-scale distribution, foodservice, or brokerage environment.
  • People leadership experience, including direct or indirect team management and development.
  • Experience managing enterprise transportation programs with $25M-$100M+ revenue or spend responsibility.
  • Proven success influencing Director, VP, or executive-level stakeholders and presenting in business reviews (e.g., QBRs).
  • Experience with TMS platforms, carrier compliance systems, and transportation pricing/analytics tools (e.g., DAT, RMIS).
  • Strong track record of margin improvement, revenue growth, or P&L impact in transportation or logistics operations.
