Machinist - Model Maker II
Rohnert Park, California USA • Permanent contract • As soon as possible
Supports advanced development of new products and processes by creating prototypes & tooling in support of R&D. The work includes programming CAM equipment, designing and building tools, dies, jigs in the advancement of products and processes.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborative project team member able to provide machining guidance to the Design Engineering staff and operations personnel on new products.
  • Able to identify new equipment needs in support of the advancement of new products.
  • Able to manufactures tooling and fixtures including mold tools
  • Sets-up, programs and operates CNC equipment including 4 axis mill, lathe with live tooling and sub-spindles, including sliding headstock configuration.
  • Able to read engineering drawings and effectively interprets dimensions and tolerances
  • Performs equipment maintenance as defined by Maintenance & Task Schedule Binder
  • Supports new equipment qualifications through IQOQPQ techniques.
  • Manages and maintains shop floor tooling
  • Identifies new equipment requirements to meet new product challenges
  • Provides cost and material estimates for prototypes, tooling, and short run production.
  • Develops CAM code in support of new and existing products.
  • Responsible for inspecting and assuring quality of machined components
  • Responsible for ISO 13485 documentation per specific project requirements
  • Sets-up and operates various manual equipment including mills, lathes, grinders and drill-press
  • Assist in assembly tool development for existing & new product designs.
Typical Working Conditions
Machine shop, manufacturing floor; exposure to fumes and chemicals is limited but not absent.
Equipment Used:
Manual mill, manual lathe, CNC mill, CNC lathe, surface grinder, tool grinder, pedestal grinder, band saw, drill press, Precision measurement tools, Safety glasses, gloves, face masks, earplugs, anti-fatigue mats; computer and office equipment.
Essential Physical Tasks:
Sitting/standing for prolonged periods of time; use hands to finger, feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, and crouch; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications:
  • High School or G.E.D. equivalent and machine tool technology program
  • Ten (10) years related experience
  • Working knowledge of model shop equipment and tools
  • Working knowledge of precision inspection tools to verify prototype and production components
  • Knowledge of CNC "G-code" and current CAD-CAM techniques and software
  • Ability to interpret and follow all safety rules and regulations
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, organizational skills, and ability to troubleshoot and solve problems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Products
