Job description

POOLS BY DESIGNExperienced Pool Sales Representative

The Woodlands / Greater Houston, TX • Full-Time • On the Road / In-Person

About Pools By Design

Pools By Design is a custom in-ground pool builder based in The Woodlands, Texas, specializing in gunite swimming pools, spas, and outdoor living spaces for homeowners throughout the greater Houston area. We're a growth-focused team that takes pride in craftsmanship, straightforward customer communication, and building backyards our clients love for decades — and we're looking for an experienced, motivated sales professional to help us grow.

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic, results-driven Pool Sales Representative to join our team and take qualified leads from the initial homeowner consultation all the way through site evaluation, custom pool design, estimating, proposal presentation, negotiation, and signed contract. This is not an entry-level or purely transactional sales role — we're looking for someone who understands (or can quickly learn) how a gunite pool is built, can accurately price a project, and has the confidence and consultative skill to close higher-end residential projects. Your technical knowledge and passion for sales will help clients envision — and buy — their perfect backyard oasis, while ensuring they receive a top-tier experience from first meeting through project handoff.

What You'll Do

Consultative Sales & Design

  • Meet with homeowners for in-home, virtual, or on-site consultations to understand their goals, lifestyle, property, priorities, and budget.
  • Evaluate properties and gather accurate measurements and site information needed to complete custom designs.
  • Design custom gunite pools, spas, tanning ledges, water features, and outdoor living spaces tailored to each client.
  • Create professional 2D/3D pool presentations using Pool Studio/Structure Studio.
  • Recommend equipment, finishes, tile, coping, decking, lighting, automation, heaters, and other upgrades.
  • Educate clients on differences in design, materials, construction methods, and long-term value — building trust rather than relying on high-pressure tactics.
  • Present designs, pricing, and project options clearly and confidently, and gain commitment for the project.

Estimating, Proposals & Closing

  • Prepare accurate, profitable estimates and proposals with our in house quote tool.
  • Understand gross profit and project margins; negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts while protecting company margins.
  • Follow up consistently with prospective clients and conduct second appointments until the sale is closed or the prospect is no longer active.
  • Close contracts and collect all required documentation and customer selections.

Project & Customer Management

  • Prepare, submit, and follow up on permit applications required through the approval stage.
  • Provide an organized, detailed project handoff to the construction team.
  • Maintain proactive communication with sold customers throughout construction, including regular status updates.
  • Attend weekly sales and construction meetings, and be present at key job-phase milestones (e.g., day of dig, day of shoot) to guide customers and construction managers as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of leads, appointments, proposals, and follow-ups in the company CRM.

Business Development

  • Prospect new customers through cold calling, lead generation, networking, and referrals to build a robust sales pipeline.
  • Manage a designated territory, nurturing existing accounts and identifying new business opportunities.
  • Build and expand a local referral network with builders, general contractors, landscapers, real estate professionals, architects, and other industry partners.
  • Participate in marketing and sales initiatives — seminars, home shows, trade shows, and telemarketing events — and contribute local market insight to marketing strategy and sales collateral.
  • Work toward individual sales, revenue, and closing-performance goals, and review progress in regular meetings with sales leadership.
What We're Looking For

Required / Strongly Preferred

  • Proven experience in outside sales, consultative sales, in-home sales, or high-ticket/commission-based sales; previous swimming pool sales and/or design experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success moving opportunities through a full sales process and closing high-value residential projects (comfortable discussing projects in the $75,000–$200,000+ range).
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, and closing skills, paired with excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and goal-oriented — able to manage multiple active opportunities independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable being compensated primarily or entirely under a commission-based pay structure.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel throughout the territory, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to pass a background screening.

Particularly Valuable

  • Experience with Pool Studio, Structure Studios, VizTerra, or similar CAD/3D pool design software.
  • Working knowledge of gunite swimming pool construction, estimating, and pricing.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and Microsoft Office.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.

Swimming pool industry experience is valued but not required for the right candidate — we can teach our design process, estimating system, construction methods, and technical standards. What's harder to teach, and most important to us, is the ability to build trust, uncover what a client truly wants, present solutions confidently, and consistently ask for the sale.

Compensation & Benefits

We want to attract a proven producer and are prepared to build a compensation package that rewards performance. Compensation structure will be discussed based on experience and track record, and may include a combination of:

  • Guaranteed base salary, draw, or training pay during an initial ramp-up/training period.
  • Aggressive, uncapped commission structure once ramped up.
  • Tiered performance bonuses and incentives for reaching sales goals.
  • Company-generated, pre-qualified leads, plus the opportunity to grow income further through self-generated and referral business.
  • Total first-year earnings in the $50,000–$100,000+ range for a new producer, with realistic earning potential of $100,000–$250,000+ annually for an experienced, high-performing consultant.

Benefits may include:

  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off
  • Flexible schedule

Exact compensation structure, benefits eligibility, and earning examples will be discussed in the interview process.

Travel & Physical Requirements
  • Regular travel throughout The Woodlands, Conroe, Willis, and greater Houston service area for client appointments and job-site visits.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to communicate promptly and clearly via phone, email, and CRM software.
  • Ability to drive between appointments and job sites as needed, including occasional evenings or weekends based on customer availability.
How to Apply

Please submit your résumé along with any relevant examples of your sales production, pool or design portfolio, and prior closing history. Applicants with direct swimming pool, custom home construction, or high-value residential sales and design experience will receive priority consideration.
