The Role
The Multnomah Athletic Club is seeking a Recreational Lifeguard to join the MAC Aquatics team. This lifeguard will be a guardian of our aquatic facilities, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone who dives in. Under the guidance of our Aquatics Supervisor and Lifeguard Coordinators, this individual will actively prevent and respond to emergencies, maintaining a vigilant eye over the pool area and keeping it in top-notch condition. This role is crucial in delivering a premium experience and creating a secure environment where everyone can relax and enjoy.
This is a part-time, fully on-site position that offers a flexible schedule with variable hours.
What You'll Do
  • Maintains constant surveillance of members and guests who are using the aquatic facilities; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of members & guests in the event of an emergency.
  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
  • Attends weekly, monthly or quarterly team meetings as assigned or needed
  • Regularly promotes activities and programs and be knowledgeable of all programming, upcoming activities and special events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring
  • Current CPR-PR/AED, First-aid certifications are a must; Lifeguard certification is a definite plus.
  • Excellent communication skills to connect with both staff and members effectively.
  • Passion for working with children, creating an enjoyable and educational experience.
  • Previous aquatics instructional experience highly preferred, bringing valuable expertise to the team.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to tread water and swim continuously for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks such as demonstrating techniques, swimming laps, and supporting students in the water.
  • Adequate strength to assist and support swimmers of various sizes in the water, including lifting or towing them to safety if necessary.
  • Ability to move freely in and out of the pool, crouch, bend, and stand for long periods.
  • Good eyesight and hearing to effectively observe students and communicate instructions, especially in noisy environments.
  • Physical ability to perform lifesaving techniques, such as CPR, rescue breaths, and using a backboard for spinal injury precautions.
