This position is for non-trained Swim Instructor candidates of any age. Full salary range is $20.77-21.87. Once fully trained, the employee will be promoted to a Swim Instructor. Hiring range for a Swim Instructor is $22.50- $23.68.
Position Summary:
Assist a certified Swim Instructor throughout swimming classes/programs. Provide leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in YMCA Swim Lesson programs.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
โ€ข Assist in instructing swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines
โ€ข Develop positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance
โ€ข Encourage member and parent involvement and recruits potential volunteers
โ€ข Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs
โ€ข Assist in maintaining records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.)
โ€ข Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures, complete incident and accident reports as necessary
โ€ข Organize and puts away needed class equipment, report damaged equipment
โ€ข Completion of YMCA specific training/certifications as directed
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
โ€ข Minimum age 16 +
โ€ข Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards:
    • Swim 150 yards

- 25 yards front crawl
- 25 yards breast stroke
- 25 yards back crawl
- 25 yards butterfly
- 25 yards side stroke
- 25 yards elementary backstroke
    • Tread water for 2 minutes using breast stroke and scissor kicks, eggbeater kick is optional but desired
    • Perform continuous CPR for at least 2 minutes
