We are currently hiring Swim Instructors and Deck Hands for our Madison location. These roles are perfect for candidates who enjoy working with children and families, are dependable and organized, and want to be part of a fun, active environment.

No previous swim-instruction experience is necessary. Kittelson Swim School provides PAID TRAINING! We proudly invest in our team members, so they feel confident and prepared to provide a great experience for our swimmers and families.

Swim Instructor Responsibilities

As a Swim Instructor, you can expect to:

  • Teach the same students each week and celebrate their progress in the pool.
  • Teach 30-minute swim classes with a maximum of 4 students per class.
  • Work with swimmers generally ranging from 2–12 years old.
  • Learn and confidently teach the Kittelson Swim School curriculum through hands-on training.
  • Work alongside experienced instructors and leadership to maintain our safety standards.
  • Communicate with parents about student progress, accomplishments, and areas of continued development.
  • Assist children in and around the pool while maintaining a safe and encouraging learning environment.
  • Walk and stand in the pool for extended periods and lift students or pool equipment as necessary.

Typical shifts are approximately 3–4 hours long and may include evenings and weekends.

Deck Hand Responsibilities

Our Deck Hands help keep lessons organized, on schedule, and running smoothly from the pool deck.

As a Deck Hand, you may:

  • Oversee the flow of classes throughout the shift.
  • Help swimmers and families locate their scheduled class and instructor.
  • Check students in and help ensure classes begin on time.
  • Communicate with parents and clients before, during, and after lessons.
  • Answer general questions about lessons, scheduling, policies, programs, and Kittelson Swim School.
  • Collect payments when needed and assist families with account or registration questions.
  • Communicate with the Lead Scheduler regarding last-minute absences, schedule changes, class adjustments, instructor changes, and other unexpected situations.
  • Help coordinate on-the-spot schedule changes so instructors and families know where they need to be.
  • Support instructors with parent communication and general pool-deck needs.
  • Help maintain a welcoming, organized, and professional environment for families.
  • Assist with daily equipment setup and tear-down, including preparing lesson equipment before classes and properly storing materials at the end of the day.
  • Monitor the pool deck and help leadership maintain Kittelson Swim School's safety expectations.

Deck Hands are an important connection between our families, instructors, and scheduling team and help make sure each day runs as smoothly as possible.
