Job description

Are you a student looking for a summer job? Are you at least 15 years old? The YMCA of Greater Erie is looking to hire Swim Instructors and Swim Instructor Aides. Spend your summer in the water. No experience needed!
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SWIM INSTRUCTOR
As a YMCA of Greater Erie Swim Instructor, you provide swimming and water safety instruction to students of all ages. You have effective, positive relationships with the members and participants by ensuring a positive and enriching experience for all involved. Always alert, you maintain constant supervision of students and complete progress reports. You are careful to act as a role model for the youth at all times!
You are friendly and patient as you implement program activities with different age groups. You must be able to remain in water averaging 80-90 degrees, or an air temperature of greater than 65 degrees. You are also conscientious about keeping records up to date and accurate by reporting to your supervisor. As someone who loves your job, you happily attend and participate in all training and in-service events as required.
Swim Instructor position pays $10.98-$16.48/hour depending on experience.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A SWIM INSTRUCTOR
  • At least 16 years of age
  • Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen within 60 days of hire date.
  • YMCA Swim Instructor Certification or equivalent / Certification class coming in May
  • Must demonstrate Swim Instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Required to get Act 33, Act 34 and FBI clearances.
  • New Employee Orientation- YUSA, Mandated Reporter, and child abuse prevention training within 60 days of hire date
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Swim instructor assistant position pays $8.00 - $13.87/hour depending on experience.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A SWIM INSTRUCTOR ASSISTANT
  • Minimum age 15 years old.
  • Show proficiency in 4 of 6 strokes (front crawl, back crawl, breast stroke, side stroke, butterfly and elementary backstroke)
  • Good human relation skills.
