Job description

Position Title: Non-CDL Driver
Reports to: Assistant Manager
Classification: Hourly
Department: Delivery
We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused Non-CDL Driver to join our lumberyard team. This position plays a key role in ensuring our customers receive building materials in excellent condition, on time, and with exceptional service. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment and values teamwork, safety, and accuracy.
Purpose of Position: The Non-CDL Driver transports lumber, building materials, and other products between our lumberyard, customer job sites, and other company locations using company vehicles that do not require a CDL license. Drivers must operate vehicles safely, comply with all state and federal traffic regulations, and follow company procedures to ensure accurate and timely deliveries
Essential Functions: (Must be able to perform these functions, with or without reasonable accommodation).
โ€ข Safely operate a flatbed or box truck in compliance with DOT, state, and company regulations
โ€ข Load, secure, and deliver building materials to customers' job sites.
โ€ข Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, reporting any maintenance or safety concerns.
โ€ข Verify that delivery tickets match materials loaded.
โ€ข Unload materials at job sites, ensuring products are handled with care and delivered to the agreed location.
โ€ข Pick up returns from job sites and complete required documentation.
โ€ข Assist forklift operators during loading and unloading when needed.
โ€ข Accurately complete delivery logs, including mileage, time, and delivery details.
โ€ข Relay accurate messages between customers and the company.
โ€ข Maintains knowledge of proper identification of inventory items.
โ€ข Wait on customers while truck is being loaded, unloaded, and during slow delivery periods.
โ€ข Account for company funds when necessary (e.g. C.O.D.'s)
โ€ข Assist in maintaining good housekeeping in yard and warehouse.
โ€ข Maintain a clean delivery truck and assist in maintaining a safe and organized yard and warehouse.
โ€ข Assist with inventory counts and general yard duties when not making deliveries.
โ€ข Immediately report all accidents, injuries, or property damage to the Yard Foreman or General Manager.
โ€ข Adhere to all company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
โ€ข Other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: (With or without reasonable accommodations)
โ€ข Ability to operate delivery vehicles safely in all weather and traffic conditions.
โ€ข Experience with flatbed and box truck driving for work purposes.
โ€ข Understanding of load securement and safe material handling.
โ€ข Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
โ€ข Must be able to pass company-provided forklift and/or Moffett training and maintain certification..
โ€ข Good communication skills and customer service mindset.
โ€ข Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
โ€ข Must maintain a clean driving record and comply with DOT requirements.
โ€ข Must be comfortable maneuvering and parking the delivery vehicle.
โ€ข Must be able to read, write and communicate in English effectively.
โ€ข Must be able to comply with OSHA requirements and standards to wear all applicable PPE properly.
โ€ข Must pass a background check and DOT drug test and DOT physical.
Experience and Education Requirements:
โ€ข High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
โ€ข Valid driver's license with no major moving violations.
โ€ข 2+ years proven experience with similar equipment and environment is preferred.
