Job description

We are hiring for a Survey Crew Chief to contribute to our Transportation & Land Development projects on a full-time, direct basis in the Milton, DE area.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead complex bridge surveying operations by measuring for a variety of factors: roadway layout, underground utilities, slope & elevation, etc.
  • Lead field surveying operations with geodetic surveys for boundary, topographic, construction, and engineering land surveying projects.
  • Maintain proficiency with the operation of total stations, data collectors, GPS systems, and robotic instruments.
  • Gather field survey data with a variety of methods: conventional, robotic, Global Positioning System (GPS), aerial (e.g.: drones), etc.
  • Adjust & operate surveying instruments (e.g.: prisms, total stations, GPS/electronic distance-measuring equipment, auto-levels, etc.).
  • Prepare field notes & drawings in order to perform complex survey calculations.
  • Maintain the ability to work independently as well as part of a small crew (up to 3 people).
  • Instruct and train survey crew in surveying & mapping methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures.
  • Perform computations as well as QA/QC checks.
  • Safely operate ATV, UTV, or similar vehicle (depending on the project & resources available).
  • Demonstrate a clear commitment to delivering excellent customer service exemplified by the finished work product; this person is expected to deliver high-quality work for both support services as well as tangible end-products.
  • Additional tasks may be assigned, as needed.

Basic Requirements:
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of professional experience working in Field / Land Surveying and/or Construction.

This person will be expected to work in the field so they will be required to possess a Valid Driver's License and have a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of relevant Surveying training; active Survey credentials is a plus!
  • Experience working with Surveying for Transportation and Land Development projects; experience working on bridge projects is strongly preferred!
  • Experience working in field-based roles with physically-demanding tasks.
  • Proven expertise with modern Survey methods, best practices, and technologies.
  • Proficiency with relevant technologies / tools (e.g.: Total Stations, HDLS, GIS, etc.); experience with Leica Geosystems HW & SW, RTS (Robotic Total Stations), GPS, and/or Faro High-Definition Laser Scanning equipment is a plus!
  • Proficiency on all standard Microsoft Office software applications, especially with MS-Excel.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Strong attention-to-detail skills with the proven ability to work with a high-level of accuracy.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to work in a self-motivated manner while effectively multi-tasking and prioritizing multiple assignments.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
