WT Byler, a Quanta Services Company, is searching for an experienced Survey Party Chief to join our growing team.

The Survey Party Chief is responsible for leading a field survey crew in performing topographic, boundary, and construction layout surveys to support heavy civil and industrial projects. This position requires strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and attention to detail to ensure accurate data collection and layout in support of project objectives.


  • Lead a field survey crew to perform construction staking, boundary, and topographic surveys for civil, industrial, and railroad projects.
  • Set up and operate survey instruments such as total stations, GNSS/GPS receivers, and data collectors.
  • Interpret construction plans, specifications, and control drawings for accurate layout and verification.
  • Perform calculations and quality checks to ensure precision and consistency in all field measurements.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and superintendents to coordinate survey activities.
  • Maintain field notes, sketches, and digital data records in accordance with company standards.
  • Train and mentor survey technicians and junior crew members.
  • Ensure adherence to company safety protocols and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Perform equipment inspections and basic maintenance to ensure proper functionality and calibration.

  • Minimum 3–5 years of survey experience, with at least 2 years in a Party Chief or lead role.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in surveying, geomatics, or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency with Trimble or Topcon survey equipment and data collection software.
  • Strong understanding of coordinate systems, datums, and field-to-finish workflows.
  • Ability to process data using AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar platforms (preferred).
