Summary: We are currently seeking a Land Surveyor to join our team! The Land Surveyor will provide surveying expertise to support the planning, design, and construction of high-voltage transmission, distribution, and substation projects. This role is responsible for conducting accurate field surveys, preparing detailed maps and reports, ensuring compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements, and supporting engineering and construction teams with precise data for decision-making.

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities:

  • Surveying and Data Collection
    • Conduct boundary, topographic, right-of-way, and construction staking surveys.
    • Operate GPS, robotic total stations, and other surveying equipment to collect accurate field data.
    • Record and verify survey measurements, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
    • Provide staking for line routes, structures, foundations, and other project features.
  • Project Support
    • Prepare survey maps, plats, and reports for use in design, permitting, and construction.
    • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and construction teams to ensure survey data aligns with project requirements.
    • Verify as-built conditions and prepare final survey documentation for project closeout.
    • Assist with identifying and resolving discrepancies in design documents and field conditions.
  • Compliance and Quality Control
    • Ensure survey activities comply with local, state, and federal requirements as well as company standards.
    • Maintain accurate survey records and ensure they are properly filed for future reference.
    • Monitor and enforce quality standards in all survey work performed.
  • Communication and Coordination
    • Provide technical guidance to field crews and subcontracted survey teams.
    • Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, landowners, and regulatory agencies.
    • Participate in project meetings to provide updates and resolve survey-related issues.
  • Safety and Environmental Stewardship
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while performing field surveys.
    • Promote and contribute to a strong safety culture in line with Summit Line Construction's values.
    • Ensure environmental considerations are incorporated into survey activities.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Stand and walk for extended periods of time
    • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
    • Navigate uneven terrain at job sites
    • Use hands to handle tools, materials, and equipment
    • Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as required
    • Climb ladders and stairs
    • Work at elevated heights when necessary
    • Lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
    • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
    • Maintain visual awareness sufficient to safely operate tools and equipment

    What You'll Bring

    Qualifications

    • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
    • Experience: 3+ years of surveying experience, preferably in utility or infrastructure construction.
    • Licensing: Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license preferred; Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) or ability to obtain PLS within 1-2 years required.
    • Technical Proficiency: Proficient with GPS, robotic total stations, data collectors, and CAD software (AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent).
    • Skills: Strong attention to detail, analytical problem-solving, and communication skills.
    • Other: Willingness to travel and work in outdoor environments under varying conditions.
