Job description

CPH is a multi-disciplined Engineering and Architectural design firm that ranks in the nation's Top 500 Design Firms by ENR Magazine.
CPH has an opening for the following position: Survey Instrument Man.

The Survey Instrument Man is responsible for assisting in the collection of field data to support engineering and construction projects. This role involves working closely with a survey crew chief and other team members to operate a variety of surveying equipment, maintain accurate field notes, and perform tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Assist with field data collection using total stations, GPS/GNSS systems, levels, and data collectors
  • Set up and break down surveying instruments and equipment at job sites
  • Take clear and accurate field notes, including sketches and descriptions of field conditions
  • Assist with measurements and stakeout activities for boundaries, topographic surveys, utilities, and construction projects
  • Ensure proper care, calibration, and organization of survey tools and equipment
  • Load and unload field vehicles with necessary materials and supplies
  • Operate tools such as sledgehammers, shovels, machetes, and chainsawsย 
  • Follow company and industry safety practices and wear required PPE at all required times
  • Communicate effectively with the survey crew chief and other field personnel to complete assignments efficiently
  • Work in varied terrain and weather conditions for extended periods
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Preferred experience operating surveying equipment and using TOPCON Magnet software.
  • Preferred skills in field surveying, data collection.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively with a team
  • Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate project deadlines.
  • Ability to work out of town and adapt to different schedules, including nighttime or third shift work.
  • Detail oriented, quality conscious, reliable and self-motivated.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license with a clean driving record
Education and Experience:ย 
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Relevant certification or technical training in surveying technology and equipment is a plus.ย 
  • Dependent upon experience.
