About the Job
General Summary of Position
Assists with in room preoperative and intra-operative preparation of patients and assists with set up of the surgical suite before during and after a surgical procedure under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Clinical: Performs basic routine and specialized tasks in assigned department under the supervision of a registered nurse. Follows and utilizes appropriate sterilization techniques during all cases. Prepares equipment and surgical table for procedure. Provides assistance in moving patient from stretcher to surgical table and back. Prepares and helps with patient positioning. Helps pull case carts for the following day and returns all sterile equipment to its appropriate location.
  • Environmental: Maintains a clean safe prepared work environment. Prepares sterile equipment and surgical table for procedure. When scrubbing in a case appropriate hand washing and sterilization techniques are followed. Assists with the cleaning and sterilization of all procedure equipment. Assists with the cleaning and sterilization of Operating Room for case turnover.
  • Development: Maintains current knowledge certification and licensure. Identifies learning needs in self and initiates actions to address these education needs. Attends continuing education programs in order to maintain certification. Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department Completes all mandatory requirements certifications and licensure within allotted timeframe for completion (CPR License PPD Competencies Age Specifics etc.)
  • Organizational knowledge: Works effectively within and between departments. Participates on inter-departmental teams and committees communicating unit knowledge as appropriate. Provides department/unit with information and knowledge acquired during participation with interdepartmental teams and committees. Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff supervisors and managers both inside and outside the unit.

    Education
    • Completion of accredited surgical tech program required
    Experience
    • New graduate required
    • 1-2 years experience in a hospital setting required
    • Surgical experience required
    Licenses and Certifications
    • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
    • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
    Knowledge Skills and Abilities
    • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of internal and external customers
    • Knowledge of different types of procedures: Orthopedic General GYN Vascular Surgery
    • Basic Computer skills to perform Data entry
    • Computerized clinical information systems such as Clinicians View GE Manager
    • HIPAA policies on Confidentiality
