What is a surgery center?

A surgery center, also known as an ambulatory surgery center (ASC), is a medical facility where surgeries that do not require hospital admission are performed. These centers provide a safe, cost-effective environment for procedures that allow patients to return home the same day. Surgery centers are typically staffed by skilled surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists, and are equipped with advanced medical technology. They commonly perform procedures in specialties such as orthopedics, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, and more.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a surgery center role?

To excel in a Surgery Center, professionals typically need clinical expertise in perioperative care, a relevant healthcare degree or certification (such as RN, CST, or anesthesia credentials), and strong knowledge of surgical procedures. Familiarity with operating room technology, sterilization systems, and electronic health records is crucial. Excellent teamwork, attention to detail, and effective communication help individuals stand out in this fast-paced environment. These skills ensure patient safety, smooth surgical workflows, and high-quality outcomes in ambulatory surgical settings.

What are some common challenges faced by staff working in a surgery center, and how can they be managed?

Staff in a surgery center often encounter challenges such as managing tight surgical schedules, coordinating care among multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring strict adherence to safety and infection control protocols. Effective communication, strong organizational skills, and staying current with best practices are essential for overcoming these challenges. Centers typically support staff with regular training, team meetings, and robust protocols to maintain a safe and efficient environment for both patients and employees.

Job description

Join us as a partnership-track Total Joint Orthopedic Surgeon at Reno Orthopedic Center! We are seeking a candidate to join our team the second half of 2027.

We are physician-owned and committed to providing excellent orthopedic care. We’ve recently completed construction of the region’s only Institute for Musculoskeletal Health located in downtown Reno. This convenient, all-inclusive campus is home to the region’s largest team of fellowship-trained orthopedic specialists, imaging, a walk-in clinic, Nevada's only total joint replacement specific outpatient surgery center, a five-suite general orthopedic outpatient surgery center, physical therapy and more. ROC continues to expand - in 2026, we have added vascular and pain management service lines in addition to our existing orthopedic specialties.

You would have the opportunity to become a partner/shareholder in the company, if voted in by the other shareholders, which can be very lucrative with the volume of patients and state of the art ancillaries ROC owns. By joining our team of physicians, you would have many well-respected surgeons and providers within who you would be able to collaborate. Be a part of our family and contribute to your community in a real and tangible way.

  • Completion of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree;
  • Completion of a residency program;
  • Completion of a fellowship in a total joint replacement/arthroscopy or related program;
  • Eligible to obtain state of Nevada medical license;
  • Eligible to obtain Board Certification.

This position is eligible for full-time, physician-level benefits.
