Job description

We are seeking to fill a Full-Time Surgery Assistant position that requires experience as either an Oral Surgery or Dental Assistant.

Monday through Friday hours vary depending on the clinic load. Hours vary for start time as early as 6:30 am and end as late as 6:30 pm. These are not 12-hour shifts.

Position Summary:

Under Direct and Indirect Supervision, the oral surgery assistant will assist the Oral Surgeon in both administrative and clinical duties, including: preparing the patient for procedure or exam, sterilizing and disinfecting instruments, setting up instrument trays, preparing materials, and assisting during procedures. Provide patient and practice support services, including, but not limited to, personal assistance, medical attention, and emotional support.

Essential Functions:

Assist with dental and medical emergencies according to OSHA and office procedures.

Maintain CPR/ACLS/PALS/DAANCE certifications.

Assist the chairside during the administration of nitrous oxide.

Assist the chairside during the administration of sevoflurane.

Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients.

Record treatment and procedure information in patient records.

Take i-CAT, panoramic, and PA x-rays.

Seat patient, set up monitor; monitor patient during sedation and recovery.

Assist with multiple functions, including set-up and tear-down of consult/surgery rooms.

Actively provide hand instruments and materials to Oral Surgeons, as needed, during exams and procedures to help maintain patient comfort and Oral Surgeons' efficiency.

Using and maintaining hazard control protocols as established by OSHA, DEA, and office standards.

Review post-operative instructions with patients and their ride, and escort patients to their car.

Familiar with office/surgery equipment, perform cleaning procedures as indicated.

Must always represent the practice in a professional, pleasant, and cooperative manner.

Maintain regular attendance and adhere to the assigned work schedule and office policies.

Must be able to comfortably and efficiently handle multiple deadlines and task assignments

Must be able to work both independently and cooperatively in team settings.

Occasionally, there may be some travel, by car or plane, required for you to participate in continuing education or seminars.

Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

Other duties and tasks, as assigned periodically.

Implant Coordinator- will be trained after the surgery assistant training.

Always maintain the highest level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards.

Adhere to strict safety guidelines and procedures to OSHA and office standards.

Adhere to office policy and procedures when collecting payments.

Must be comfortable seeing and able to maintain a professional demeanor and attitude while working around blood and smells that may be unpleasant.

Must be detail-oriented to work efficiently in small spaces and maintain patient comfort.

You must be flexible and understand that your job duties may change from time to time, and that you may be asked to "help out" in other areas of the office.

Must excel in forward thinking to anticipate the needs of the doctor, as well as the patient.

Must demonstrate active listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Must demonstrate good reading comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.

Must demonstrate excellent communication skills, talking to others to convey information effectively.

Experience and Education:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.

A diploma or certificate from an approved dental assisting program, if possible.

Preferred two years of dental/ oral surgery practice experience.

Must pass a criminal background check and drug screen.

Must be at least 18 years old to apply.
