POSITION: LINC Instructor - Surrey Language Centre and Burnaby Language Centre

DEPARTMENT: Employment, Language, and Social Enterprise


POSITION FUNCTION:

  • The ESL Instructor prepares curriculum materials and delivers ESL instruction under the MOSAIC
    curriculum guidelines for students for day and/or evening classes.
  • Prepare curriculum materials, delivering ESL instruction under the MOSAIC curriculum guidelines
  • Create a welcoming and encouraging classroom environment both in person and online as appropriate
  • Maintain student attendance records
  • Planning for class field trips, guest speakers, and special events
  • Assess and evaluate students using Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) indicators and Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA).


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Recognized undergraduate degree and a TESL Canada-recognized TESL certificate or a clearly documented equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience teaching adult ESL, particularly using student-centered, participatory methods. Community-based, settlement and Literacy ESL experience an asset.
  • CLB Bootcamp certificate or equivalent training is required.
  • Working knowledge of the CLBs (Canadian Language Benchmarks) and PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment) is an asset.
  • Completion of Orientation to the ESL for Adult Literacy Learners offered through the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks is considered an asset https://learning.language.ca/
  • Competent degree of computer literacy using e-mail, word processing programs, and learner management systems. Experience facilitating online learning environments is an asset.
  • Highly organized, tactful, versatile, and flexible with excellent communication skills; sensitive to and understanding of the needs of adult immigrant learners; attitudes and values in keeping with the goals and philosophies of MOSAIC.
  • A current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required
  • Candidates must be able to commute to the Surrey Language Centre at 7134 King George Blvd (or) Suite 200, Surrey, BC V3W 5A3 and the Burnaby Language Centre at Suite 454, 4800 Kingsway, Burnaby

HOURS: SLC AM (17.5 hours), SLC PM (17.5 hours) and BLC PM (17.5 hours)


DEADLINE TO APPLY: September 18th, 2026, by 4:30 pm. Fixed term positions until March 31, 2027. The successful candidates must be able to commute to our Surrey or Burnaby Language Centre locations.
