Job description

The NPI Materials Program Manager is the primary owner of clear-to-build readiness across all development phases (Proto1, EVT, DVT, and PVT), ensuring material availability and qualification status meets program requirements and schedules. This role drives daily execution of material readiness through focused supplier management of COTS components and detailed BOM cost tracking. Operating at the intersection of Hardware Engineering, Product Engineering, Supply Chain, and Sourcing teams, this position requires expert knowledge of consumer electronics BOMs and supply chain dynamics.

The role maintains critical visibility of component costs, providing weekly cost analysis and bridges to support design decisions. A key responsibility is managing the systematic transition of materials ownership to Supply Chain team during PVT, ensuring smooth handoff of supplier relationships, open orders, and risk-buy inventory. Success in this role demands strong program management skills to coordinate across global teams, flexibility to manage Asia-based supplier relationships across time zones, and the ability to proactively identify and resolve material risks that could impact build schedules.

* Support design-to-cost initiatives by providing cost impact analysis
Materials Management:
* Drive clear-to-build status for all development phases (Proto/EV/DV)
* Support Engineering Program Manager (EPM) with build matrix execution by tracking special material requirements for each build phase, ensuring material availability aligns with build matrix timing, and validating component readiness for build requirements
* Support Operations Program Manager (OPM) with risk-buy execution during xVT phases by providing input on component lead times and availability, tracking inventory exposure and material status, and supporting risk assessment for build schedules
Supplier Collaboration:
* Participate in night calls with Asia-based suppliers (2-3 times per week) to drive critical deliverables and issue resolution
* Partner with Global Supply Manager (GSM) to escalate critical supply chain risks and constraints, provide input on risk-buy decisions and financial impacts, and drive supplier commitment and accountability
Program Management:
* Lead clear-to-build audits with factory teams, including component qualification status, material availability and quality verification, documentation completeness, and production readiness signoffs
* Ensure BOM accuracy and maintain document control for specifications and datasheets
* Monitor and align NPI component costs with mass production cost targets
* Travel to Asia manufacturing sites 1-2 times per year for critical build phases
* Provide coverage support for regional product initiatives as needed
Transition Management:
* Drive structured handoff to Supply Chain team during PVT phase, including transfer of supplier relationships and communications, documentation of open purchase orders and commitments, risk-buy inventory status and disposition plans, outstanding quality or technical issues, and BOM cost tracking and analysis tools
* Partner with Supply Chain team to ensure continuity of material management during transition
* Support Supply Chain team through initial PVT builds as needed
