Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, dependable Sanitation Supervisor to lead a sanitation crew assigned to a GMP-regulated warehouse cleaning project in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for directing daily sanitation activities, maintaining safety and GMP compliance, monitoring employee performance, inspecting completed work, and coordinating project needs with facility leadership.

The ideal candidate has prior experience supervising employees in a GMP manufacturing, food manufacturing, pharmaceutical, dietary supplement, warehouse, or other regulated production environment and is comfortable working in an active industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily pre-shift meetings and assign sanitation work to crew members.
  • Supervise cleaning of warehouse racking, floors, walls, and surrounding work areas.
  • Ensure employees follow GMP, sanitation, food safety, PPE, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Monitor work quality and inspect completed areas before client or QA review.
  • Ensure required equipment inspections and safety checks are completed before work begins.
  • Enforce fall-protection, lift-operation, PPE, and other applicable safety requirements.
  • Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, productivity, and performance.
  • Coach employees on proper cleaning techniques and safe work practices.
  • Maintain accurate shift documentation, work-hour records, and project status information.
  • Communicate completed work, delays, equipment issues, supply needs, and safety concerns to project leadership.
  • Coordinate corrective cleaning when deficiencies are identified.
  • Immediately stop work and escalate unsafe conditions or serious deviations.
  • Assist with maintaining an organized, professional, and compliant work environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment is required.
  • Previous sanitation, manufacturing, warehouse, industrial cleaning, or production experience.
  • Prior supervisory, team-lead, or crew-lead experience.
  • Working knowledge of GMP requirements and contamination-prevention practices.
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety, PPE, and safe equipment operation.
  • Ability to direct employees, hold team members accountable, and address performance issues professionally.
  • Strong communication, organization, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable transportation to the Winston-Salem worksite.
  • Ability to work 2nd shift, typically 2:00 PM–12:00 AM, with some extended days up to approximately 2:00 AM.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous food manufacturing or sanitation supervisory experience.
  • Experience with warehouse sanitation or GMP deep-cleaning projects.
  • Scissor lift or aerial-lift training is a plus.
  • Forklift training or certification is a plus.
  • Fall-protection training.
  • OSHA or other workplace safety training.
  • Experience preparing work areas for QA or client inspection.

Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Bend, reach, climb, and perform physical sanitation work as needed.
  • Lift and move supplies or equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds, with assistance when appropriate.
  • Work at elevated heights using required fall-protection equipment.
  • Wear required PPE for the duration of assigned work.
  • Work around warehouse equipment and active facility operations.

What We Are Looking For

This position requires more than simply supervising from the sidelines. We are looking for someone who is willing to lead from the floor, reinforce safety expectations, support the crew, maintain accountability, and ensure work is completed correctly.

The successful candidate will be professional, safety-focused, organized, dependable, and comfortable communicating with both employees and client representatives.

Equal Opportunity Employer: Employment decisions are based on qualifications, experience, and project requirements. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable screening, training, and site-access requirements.
