What is a supervisor project manager?

Supervisor Project Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing project teams and ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Their role includes communicating with stakeholders, managing resources, and ensuring that project objectives align with organizational goals. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills are essential for this position.

What does a supervisor project manager do?

A Supervisor Project Manager often needs to strike a balance between overseeing project teams and directly managing project deliverables. This usually involves delegating tasks, setting clear priorities, and maintaining regular communication with both team members and stakeholders. While they provide guidance and resolve issues for their team, they are also responsible for tracking project progress, managing budgets, and ensuring timelines are met. Effective time management and strong leadership skills are essential to handle both supervisory and project management responsibilities efficiently.

To thrive as a Supervisor Project Manager, you need strong leadership, project management expertise, and experience in budgeting and scheduling, often supported by a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Familiarity with project management software (such as MS Project or Asana), and certifications like PMP or PRINCE2, are commonly required. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to motivate teams help individuals excel in this supervisory role. These skills ensure projects are completed efficiently, within scope and budget, while fostering a productive team environment.

Job description

Job Summary Make an impact: The City of Salem Public Works is hiring a civil engineer at one of three levels -Engineering Program Manager, Senior Project Manager, or Project Manager - depending on your experience and certification. Why now. Recent retirements, a voter approval of a $300 million Community Improvement Bond Measure, and a backlog of projects have created a rare combination: long-term funding, meaningful work, and room to grow.

The Engineering Division's approved Capital Improvement Plan totals $407 million and provides at least 10 years of funded infrastructure to be delivered by our team. Building for the future: This recruitment will establish a six-month eligibility list. Even if you are not selected for the current opening, qualified applicants will be contacted as additional positions become available.

Hybrid schedule: Our team follows a hybrid model - in-office at the Public Works Operations and Engineering Building 3 to 4 days a week, with remote work available the remaining days with manager approval. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m
