Job description

Summit Federal Services, LLC (SFS) with headquarters in Oakland, Maryland, is a fast-growing woman owned Small Business and HUBZone company with an outstanding record of performance providing more effective and efficient acquisition, business process, training, IT, administrative and security services to multiple federal agencies.
SFS is looking for a Junior FOIA specialist to support the Department of Veteran Affairs located in Washington, DC. Telework is available however, onsite work may also occur and all applicants must reside within commutable distance of DC.
A Junior FOIA Contractor supports the processing of FOIA requests by conducting initial reviews, performing searches, drafting response materials, and applying exemptions under supervision. This role assists senior staff in maintaining workflow efficiency, ensuring accuracy, and supporting timely completion of FOIA tasks. The Junior FOIA Contractor must be able to follow established procedures, communicate clearly, and contribute to overall FOIA program operations.
Qualifications:
Education:
  • Associates Degree required
  • 1 year of FOIA processing experience within last 24 months
  • Additional FOIA experience may substitute for formal FOIA training or certifications.
  • Must be clearable up to Pubic Trust Clearance.
Duties:
  • Minimum of one (1) year of FOIA request processing experience within the last 24 months.
  • Ability to apply FOIA exemptions accurately and consistently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, professional responses.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database tools.
  • Ability to conduct effective internet and records research to support FOIA search and review activities.

Compensation:
Position will fall under the SCA labor category of Paralegal I
$25.58 per hour (53,206)
There will be an additional $5.09 an hour which will be applied towards benefits.
