Senior - Plant Operator job at Summit Midstream. Arlington, TX.

Summary

A Plant Operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and record keeping of gathering system compressor stations or process plants.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Daily operation, documentation, and housekeeping of compressor stations with reciprocating natural gas compressors.
  • Responsible for completing and maintaining required reports and logs.
  • Monitor and adjust equipment to maintain optimum availability, efficiency, and throughput.
  • Responsible for performing minor maintenance on engines, compressors, dehydrators, vapor recovery units, flares, separators, slug catchers, air compressors, and cooling fans.
  • Daily condensate tank liquid handling and truck scheduling.
  • Work with craft personnel to ensure any equipment/system problems are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for reporting, troubleshooting, and correcting abnormal operating conditions.
  • Responsible for coordinating and monitoring activities of contract personnel assigned to the area.
  • Identify emergency situations and initiate Emergency Response Procedures.
  • Promote a safe work environment, implement current safety policies and ensure environmental policies and regulatory compliance are being met.
  • May be required at some locations to monitor meters and gauges to maintain correct temperature, pressure and flow of gas through the system.
  • Maintain working knowledge of regulatory requirements, perform required tasks, and complete associated documentation (OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.).
  • Responsibilities may include Department of Transportation (DOT) covered functions per PHMSA and/or FMSCA; job duties also require the employee to be alert and respond immediately to dangerous or hazardous conditions, and where impaired performance, or failure to follow safety precautions, could result in serious injury or property damage.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical certification or equivalent training in energy-related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of stable work history in the energy industry, technical training in mechanical environment and natural gas processing including Amine Treating/Cryogenics/Dehydration.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Experience with SCADA and control systems (i.e.; Delta V, Wonder Ware, Cygnet, Kimray).
  • Basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including spreadsheet and word processing applications.
  • Possess a strong commitment to personal and job safety including complying with state and federal regulations.
  • Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and repair all types of mechanical equipment as well as good verbal/written communication skills, decision making skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Willing to work call-outs, holidays, and weekends – must live or relocate to within 1‑hour response time of the job assignment.
  • Willing to work at more than one specific station.
  • Work well within a team environment, and/or independently with limited supervision if needed.
  • Ability to interface positively with land owners, corporate contacts and other field personnel.
  • Must be able to read prints, drawings, and technical manuals and possess the ability to prepare technical reports.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Have dexterity in the use of tools and equipment.
  • Climb equipment and work at various heights.
  • Use physical force to lift, push, pull and hold equipment and tools.
  • Able to work in a standing, sitting, lying down, crouched or kneeling position and work in confined spaces.
  • Able to bend, stoop, move from ground level to higher levels, raise/lift from ground level and lift up to 50 lbs., manually transport a load up to 75 lbs. and apply up to 100 ft. lbs. of torque.
  • React to conditions, alarms and beacons using olfactory senses.
  • Assume responsibility, be flexible, perform duties and handle multiple tasks under potentially stressful and/or hazardous conditions.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in and around industrial and electrical equipment.
  • Work in temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment.
  • Wear special safety equipment (PPE) while working.
