What are summer weekend jobs?

Summer weekend jobs are temporary, seasonal positions that exist in a variety of different industries. Your duties and responsibilities vary depending on the nature of your summer season job. Some restaurants hire waiters, hostesses, and other staff to work during busy hours on a Saturday or Sunday. Retail outlets also hire sales staff to work part-time on weekends. Summer camps and recreation facilities hire workers to oversee weekend activities, while beaches and pools may need additional lifeguards. You can also find temporary summer childcare jobs, such as a weekend nanny or babysitter role.

What are the typical responsibilities and expectations for someone working a summer weekend position?

Summer Weekend roles often involve supporting increased activity during weekends in settings like hospitality, retail, or event venues. Employees in these positions are expected to handle customer service, assist with event setup or tear-down, and adapt quickly to fast-paced environments. Flexibility is important, as duties may change based on the specific needs of the weekend schedule. Teamwork and strong communication skills are key since you'll frequently collaborate with other staff to ensure smooth operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a summer camp counselor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Summer Camp Counselor, you typically need experience working with children, basic first aid knowledge, and often a high school diploma or higher. Familiarity with scheduling software, activity planning tools, and CPR certification are commonly required. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help counselors connect with campers and manage group dynamics effectively. These skills are essential to ensure camper safety, foster a fun and supportive environment, and handle unexpected situations during camp sessions.

Job description

Join a locally owned Great Clips® salon team and help deliver a welcoming, comfortable salon experience. As a receptionist, you'll be the first point of contact for customers and a key support for stylists and salon management throughout the day.
If you enjoy helping people, staying organized, and working as part of a team in an energetic, supportive salon environment, this could be a great fit.
Currently hiring a summer weekend receptionist!
This job is perfect for a cosmetology student, or any high school/college student (age 16 or older) that is interested in the beauty industry.
The salon is busy during the summer, and we need a receptionist to answer phones, greet customers, and assist with cleaning duties such as sweeping hair and doing laundry.
Pay range $12-$14/hr depending on age and experience. Approximately 12 hours per week.
Why you'll love it here
Great Clips salons give receptionists (aka salon coordinators) the structure and support to succeed in a customer-focused role:
  • Great, reliable hourly wage
  • Flexible scheduling with dependable retail hours
  • A team environment where salon staff help each other succeed
  • The opportunity to create positive connections with customers and teammates while supporting essential salon operations
  • Clear processes and training for front-desk responsibilities
  • Experience working in a professional salon setting
  • Opportunities to grow into other roles within the salon, if desired
  • Innovative salon technology, including Online Check-In and the Great Clips App

Employee offerings like medical benefits and paid time off (PTO) may be available at certain locations.
What you bring to the team
To join a Great Clips salon team as a receptionist, you'll need:
  • A friendly, professional approach to customer service
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to stay organized and manage multiple tasks
  • Reliability and a positive attitude
  • Comfort using basic technology and learning new systems
  • A team-first mindset and willingness to support salon operations

No cosmetology or barber license is required for the receptionist position. However, it can be a great opportunity for individuals exploring a future career in the industry to gain salon experience while working toward licensure. Current cosmetology and barber students are encouraged to apply.
Who we are
As the world's largest salon brand, with over 4,400 locally owned and operated salons across the U.S. and Canada, Great Clips combines strong brand recognition, marketing, and support with a close-knit, team-oriented culture. We're passionate about cutting hair and providing great value for the whole family. Talented teams of skilled professionals, along with convenient hours and a great haircut experience, set us apart in our communities.
FAQ
  • Q: Is this a customer-facing position?
A: Yes. As a receptionist, you are the first point of contact for customers and an important partner to the stylists. You are responsible for creating a comfortable, friendly, and professional environment by greeting customers warmly, keeping the salon clean and organized, providing accurate wait times, and helping manage the flow of guests.
  • Q: Will I be expected to stand during my shift as a receptionist?
A: Yes. The receptionist role in Great Clips salons is an active, on-your-feet position. You should be prepared to stand for the majority of your shift while greeting customers, maintaining the front area, and staying engaged with the flow of the salon.
  • Q: Do I need salon experience to apply?
A: No. Prior salon experience isn't required. Training is provided, and customer service skills are most important.
  • Q: What kind of training is provided for Receptionists?
A: Receptionists receive training on salon systems, customer service, and daily operations.
  • Q: Are there opportunities to grow from Receptionist into other roles?
A: Yes. Some Receptionists choose to grow into stylist, leadership, or other salon roles over time, depending on licensure and interest.

All Great Clips® salons are independently owned and operated by third-party franchisees. Franchisees, not Great Clips, Inc., are responsible for all hiring and personnel matters at their individual salons.

About Great Clips

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

Great Clips, Inc. was established in Minneapolis, Minnesota by founders David Rubenzer and Steve Lemmon in 1982, a time when most people received haircuts in one of three ways: in full-service hair salons, from barbershops or at home. As a stylist and businessman, David could see that the industry was changing. Customers were looking for a hair salon service that could fit their busy lifestyles and desire for value. To be part of that change – rather than find themselves competing with it – David and Steve developed the then-radical concept of a walk-in haircare salon with weekend and evening hours, offering customers a select list of services, and providing benefits for stylists. After the founders opened several successful hair salons, Ray Barton joined David and Steve as an owner in March 1983. With Ray's help and expertise in franchising, the trio set about growing the Great Clips hair salon brand. That success continues through today.
