Job description

Youth and Young Adults Pastor - Summit Church

This position will provide vision, strategy, programming, and leadership for all Youth and Young Adults Ministry environments for students and young adults ranging from 6th grade through college-age and young professionals. This includes weekend services, midweek gatherings, discipleship opportunities, outreach events, summer camps, and special events.
The primary goal is to help students and young adults develop a relationship with Jesus Christ through community, teaching/preaching, discipleship, mentorship, and intentional programming. The Youth & Young Adults Pastor is directly responsible for developing healthy accountability, leadership pathways, and strategic ministry goals that foster spiritual growth and empower the next generation to own and live out their faith.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Pastoral Care

  • Provides pastoral care and spiritual support for students, young adults, and their families.
  • Actively recruits volunteers and leaders for Youth and Young Adults Ministries and collaborates with ministry teams to guide and onboard new volunteers and leaders.
  • Follow up with first-time guests and individuals who have not attended recently.
  • Serves as a liaison for youth and young adults marketing and social media needs.
  • Collaborates with Outreach Ministry to engage students and young adults in community service and mission opportunities.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships by creating regular opportunities for students and young adults to connect with God and others.
  • Works closely with church leadership to develop strategies for reaching, discipling, and assimilating new students, young adults, and families.
  • Effectively communicates with students, young adults, parents/guardians, and volunteers through emails, texts, phone calls, social media platforms, and church communication channels.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with Youth Pastors, Young Adult leaders, schools, colleges, and community organizations to broaden perspective and strengthen ministry effectiveness.
  • Leads and oversees strategic outreaches, service projects, conferences, and events designed to engage the local community and foster spiritual growth.
  • Works collaboratively with all church staff to create alignment, support, and engagement opportunities for students, young adults, and families.

Programming

  • Works with ministry leaders to provide engaging programming designed to strengthen faith and spiritual formation.
  • Plans and oversees activities such as small groups, worship experiences, camps, retreats, mission trips, leadership development opportunities, volunteer events, and young adult gatherings.
  • Creates environments that encourage discipleship, authentic community, mentorship, and leadership development.
  • Provides opportunities for students and young adults to discover and use their gifts in ministry and service.

Leadership

  • Develops annual calendars, ministry goals, strategic plans, and budgets while ensuring effective stewardship of ministry resources and facilities.
  • Recruits, equips, trains, and develops volunteers and leaders to effectively serve students and young adults.
  • Maintains clear ministry roles, operating procedures, expectations, and communication structures.
  • Oversees safety, liability, and compliance procedures involving the care and supervision of minors.
  • Participates in church-wide leadership planning, ministry strategy, and organizational initiatives alongside executive leadership.
  • Provides vision and strategic direction for the church’s Youth and Young Adults Ministries in alignment with the overall mission and vision of the church.

POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time clergy position. Workdays are generally Sunday through Thursday. Hours may vary based on ministry events, camps, retreats, conferences, and special programming.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position supervises staff, interns, ministry leaders, and volunteer teams within Youth and Young Adults Ministries.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and move equipment as needed

  • Ability to use computers and ministry software platforms

TRAVEL

Occasional travel may be required for camps, retreats, conferences, mission trips, and ministry-related events.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years experience working directly with youth and/or young adults
  • Agreement with the church’s vision, values, and statement of faith
  • Strong and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in theology, ministry, religious studies, or a related field preferred
  • Experience leading youth, young adult, or discipleship ministries preferred
