Job description

We are recruiting an entrepreneurial MBA or Masters Degree candidate intern for a 12-week summer internship to lead a revenue recovery and client re-engagement project for Utility Revenue Services. URS conducts utility billing audits for multifamily residential real estate owners, identifying opportunities to reduce costs and increase net operating income. Over time, many audit recommendations have gone unimplemented. Your job is to build a repeatable process to identify, prioritize, and present those open opportunities back to our clients.

Summer Project

URS maintains a portfolio of completed audits where some or all of the identified recommendations were not implemented. This dataset represents significant untapped revenue. You will analyze the open opportunity data, quantify the potential value, and develop a strategy for re-engaging clients on the highest-priority items.

Day to day, you will:

  • Data Analysis: Mine the open opportunities dataset using advanced Excel to identify patterns, prioritize by dollar value and likelihood of success, and build models to track pipeline and outcomes.
  • AI Augmentation: Leverage LLMs (Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, etc.) to assist with data processing, script generation, and workflow automation where manual analysis would be prohibitively time-consuming.
  • Client Packaging: Develop a framework for presenting open opportunities to clients. Each situation is unique: some involve a single property, but most require bundling multiple properties under a single ownership group into a cohesive presentation that makes the business case for implementation.
  • Executive Interface: Report daily to our Project Manager, with structured updates on progress, blockers and next steps. Present strategic results to the CFO and CEO at key milestones.
The Ideal Candidate

We need a self-starter who can work independently and knows when to ask a strategic question.

  • Excel Proficiency: Much of our data is Excel-based. You need to be comfortable building models, working with large datasets, and creating non-standard analytical templates.
  • AI Fluency: You already use Claude or ChatGPT, or similar tools to regularly accelerate your work: writing and debugging code, processing unstructured data, or automating repetitive tasks. You understand prompt engineering basics and can evaluate when AI output needs human judgement. You should be able to articulate why you chose a particular tool for a given task
  • Communication & Judgment: You can look at a dataset and see the revenue opportunity behind the numbers. You can translate analysis into a clear, client-ready narrative that drives a decision, not just a summary that describes the data.
  • Self-Management: This is a remote, project-based role. You manage your own schedule and deliverables against clear milestones.
Why Join URS?
  • Direct Impact: Your work will directly affect revenue and client relationships at an operating business. This is not a research project that sits on a shelf.
  • Executive Visibility: Direct exposure to CFO, CEO, and PE sponsor leadership.
  • Process Building: You are building a repeatable process that will outlast your internship, not executing someone else’s playbook.
  • Flexibility: Work remotely or from our Hinsdale, IL office.

This is a project-based role designed for a high-performing MBA student who wants a tangible, measurable impact story and hands-on experience at the intersection of data analysis, client strategy, and modern AI tools.

IMPORTANT: Apply with your resume and a brief note on how you have used an LLM to solve a business problem. Tell us the tool, the task, and what you learned. Include this in the Cover Letter when applying through Jobscore.
