Job description
The University of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society (SUS) is a BC Not-For-Profit Society representing and serving UFV students. The Society manages the Student Union Building and facilitates services such as the UFV U-Pass, food services, and the student health and dental plan. SUS also supports an active community by organizing events and providing wellness and developmental programming. As the official representative body of UFV students, our mission is to be an inclusive community that provides high-quality, accessible programs and services. We are the unified voice advocating on behalf of student interests in the UFV community, ensuring each student has opportunities to thrive.

Location: Outside the SUB, UFV Abbotsford Campus
Available Times: 10:00am to 11:00am (Set Up Assistance)
11:00am to 2:30pm (Event Assistance)
2:30pm to 3:30pm (Tear Down Assistance)

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Are you interested in getting involved on campus and meeting new people? The Student Union Society (SUS) is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support our third annual SummerFest event. Summerfest is a high-energy outdoor campus event featuring food and drinks, tote bag and canvas painting, lawn games and live music. Volunteers will help ensure the event runs smoothly by supporting various activity stations, assisting attendees, and helping with overall event operations. This is a great opportunity to gain event experience, meet fellow students, and be part of an unforgettable summer celebration on campus.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF A SUS VOLUNTEER
As a SUS Volunteer, your responsibilities may include:
Set-up: Assist with preparing the event space, including setting up equipment, signage, tables, various stations before the event begins.
Photobooth: Assist students at the photobooth, help manage the line, encourage participation, and support with taking photos if needed.
Catering: Support food distribution, help keep the station organized.
Italian Soda: Prepare and serve drinks, and keep the station clean, organized, and well stocked.
Merch Station: Hand out SUS merchandise to students.
Snow Cone Station: Assist with preparing and handing out snow cones.
Crowd control and people support: Welcoming students and helping them navigate the event, assisting participants during the event, and supporting other volunteers or UFVSUS staff as required.
Tear-down: Assist with cleaning up the event space, including packing equipment and returning the space to its original condition.
Upholding SUS Values: Supporting, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusivity & adhering to UFV & SUS bylaws, policies, and procedures.
Note: Roles will be assigned by the SUS Services Coordinator based on availability and event needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Positive, high-energy personality & desire to interact with your fellow students
Must be a UFV Student in Summer 2026 or Fall 2026
Represent & adhere to SUS values on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI)
Ability to work well with a diverse team and contribute to a collaborative, positive event environment
Previous event volunteer experience or interest in events is a plus, but not required
Available to work selected hours on July 9, 2026
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a one day volunteer opportunity for the SummerFest event. Applicants must be current students of UFV and take at least one course in the Summer semester.
