Job description

Position Description:
Distribution Planning duties include the Ten-Year Distribution Capacity Plan, Two-Year Distribution System Improvement Plan, distribution contingency studies, capacitor management, capacitor placement study, overcurrent protection coordination studies, distribution voltage regulator settings, distribution feeder load balancing, transformer load management, and SCADA data analysis. Position will also provide technical support to Distribution Design, Area Operations, Technical Operations, and Distribution SCADA and Control.
Essential Job Tasks:
  • Coordinates overcurrent protection devices from the high-side circuit switcher in substations to fuses protecting individual distribution transformers.
  • Selects protective device locations and issues settings for overcurrent relays, electronic reclosers and electronic sectionalizers.
  • Monitors system operation and verifies the performance of protective equipment during fault conditions.
  • Monitors reliability data at the device and customer level to identify trends and/or problem areas.
  • Makes recommendations for improvements as necessary.
  • Provides engineering assistance to Distribution Design and Operations in implementing planning and design projects.
  • Evaluates, specifies, and monitors specialized equipment used on the distribution system, including reclosers, sectionalizers, electronic switchgear, and capacitors.
  • Researches new equipment and technologies to determine how this equipment may be beneficial to our system, particularly with regard to Distribution Automation.
  • Develops the Ten-Year Distribution Substation Capacity Plan and identifies new substation locations.
  • Assists System Planning in the coordination of projects within the Horry-Georgetown and Berkeley Areas.
  • Provides leadership and direction to less experienced engineers in the completion of this critical study.
  • Ensures system stability by completing summer and winter contingency planning, contingency analysis, and distribution switching as necessary.
  • Provides engineering assistance to Distribution SCADA and Control during emergency situations and power outages and in developing switching orders. R
  • Requires the employee to be on-call and able to assist the Distribution Control Center and Distribution Operations as needed upon activation of the Emergency Action Plan.
  • Serves as a back-up PowerOn Dispatcher/Controller in an area storm center during Emergency Action Plan assignments.
  • Develops the Two-Year Distribution System Improvement Plan and provides continued engineering support in the implementation of the plan. Writes short-term plans as necessary to solve operating problems, which are then included in the current Two-Year Plan.

Position Requirements:
Engineer II
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution + 2 years directly related experience required.
  • EIT License preferred.

Compensation Information:
$84,180 - $105,210 (min. - mid.)
Engineer III
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution + 5 years directly related experience required.
  • EIT License required.

Compensation Information:
$93,830 - $117,290 (min. - mid.)
Senior Engineer
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution + 8 years directly related experience required.
  • Professional Engineer License required.

Compensation Information:
$104,620 - $130,770 (min. - mid.)
